Prologue
I had taken the first week of December(3rd to 8th) off from work to relax. Then I thought, staying home alone for a week is less likely to help me relax than make me go mad. I thought why not venture out on a solo bike trip for a change :ride: . I started making the arrangements accordingly. I first decided on the places I want to visit. After taking advice from some experienced riders, I short listed 3 destinations over which I will distribute my 6 day long trip, namely,
Bhagamandala, Gudalur and Kodaikanal. All the three places were new to me, so had to take the help of Google uncle’s map facility to chalk out the route.
Day 1 (Bangalore - Mysore - Hunsur - Bylakuppe - Coorg - Bhagamandala : 325 kms)
On a bright sunny Saturday , and while all my room mates were asleep, I quietly woke up and began my journey at around 10 am. I stopped at the KFC junction near Maddur to treat myself some delicious lunch.
By the time I reached Mysore, I was feeling sleepy already, and a full stomach added to the challenge of riding on. After a long refreshment break, I carried along the Mysore outer ring road.
Once I reached the SH88, there was no slowing down, with smooth roads under the tyre, and greens all around, it was just a fabulous ride . I stopped on the way for a few breaks, took my time to click some snaps and enjoyed the change in surroundings compared to the city.
My next stop was the Golden temple at Bylakuppe. It was an expereince apart to ride through the Tibetan settlement, where everybody was dressed in red/orange monk dress we usually see in the movies :respect:. I even came across quite a few foreigners who came there to train. I continued on my snap clicking spree. The figures inside the temple were majestic and colourful. Once I was out I decided to munch on some tibetian delights.
By 5 pm I was off from Bylakuppe and on my way to Madikeri. Although the roads weren’t as exciting as the ghat sections, but some simple twists and turns were enough to lift my spirits up and make me feel, that I am indeed very far away from Bangalore’s boring straight roads. The sun was about to set when I reached Coorg main city. As much as I wanted to stay and roam around the city, I was tired and needed to reach my hotel and freshen up. I thought I was almost there, but little then I knew that the worse was yet to come. As soon as I exit the city, and continued on my way to my destination for the day, the roads went from smooth to rocky and then to filled with potholes. Maneuvering through such roads was a challenge itself. Even more, with many bifarcating roads, I lost track of the road markers, and soon found myself riding on a straight road with only trees on both the sides and not a single soul to be seen in vicinity. It was dark, and I was really getting the creeps. I had this gut feeling that I was headed in the wrong direction. So I turned back, and after almost 10 kms of riding I did come across a sign which clearly showed that I had taken the wrong turn. Finally I reached my hotel, at around 7 pm in the evening. I was staying at the Hotel Mayura Cauvery Yatri Nivas of the Karnataka State Tourism Department, in Bhagamandala. Bhagamandala was a small town/village, around 40 kms away from Coorg city, but it was much quieter and peaceful, and once the sun set, you could actually feel what darkness really meant. Soon I was drinking a cup of the famous Coorgi coffee, and munching on refreshments, before I went off to sleep for the day.
Day 2 to continue...
