hi bunny!!
3 weeks ago, i drove to kanyakumari in my accent....through hyderabad-vijaywada-chennai-pondicherry-madurai.
We came back from kanyakumari to trivandrum-cochin-mangalore-goa-bombay-surat route.
Mangalore to Goa is awesome...though there are some Ghat sections, but road is extremely smooth, with good curves and scenic beauty all around.
Goa to Mumbai is one of the BEST roads ive ever driven on.Its soo beautiful. No potholes,no nothings.Even the traffic is sparse. But once u enter mumbai,it becomes very very busy, with potholes at the mumbra stretch.Mumbra to panvel can be a Pain in the neck.Mumbai to surat is extremely good, provided there is no rain.Rains lead to traffic jams!surat ahmedabad is 6 lane all across.baroda-ahmedabad expressway is amazing, though i doubt u would be allowed on bike.ahmedabad to udairup is ghats, but really good road.Udaipur to jaipur, well,i heard is good..but i dont know much.Jaipur to Delhi is really good!

I really forgot to add...
the average speed on a ZMA,overall, could be anywhere between 75-100kmph..u can even stretch it to 120 at times...but 80 as an average should be a good bet.
Fog can be a problem on mangalore to goa route, but not a major threat. Then there is fog threat at chiplun Ghat(near mahabaleshwar) enroute mumbai...from goa. Otherwise its smooth sailing!!
Food wont be a problem at all...ample dhabas!!drinks availablity wont be a problem either..heheh..lots of permit rooms for ur whisky..
now tell us about your plans, man!!

thx for the detailed reply dude!!
well the plan.. jus chalking it out.. i hv already done the panaji-mang stretch..did it in jan 2003 on a hired cbz..was amazing..
gonna do a trip (2260kms one way) somewhere in end of dec.. but will hv only max 10-11 hrs of daylight everyday as compared to 13-14 hours right now.. thats gonna b a prob plus d fog too..so wil hv to put two big hella lamps too..
stil in initial stages of plannin..
got this book by IMS : indian map services. its a road atlas and state distance guide..has a road map with distance of every state..really nice! costs 40 bucks..
will keep u updated on my plans

ps : if i do undertake the trip , will need help from jaipur, ahm, bombay, goa xbhpians to lead me from the entrance of the cities to the exit and avoiding all the traffic. dont wanna get stuck in jams...

discovered a new route..
"the delhi-jaipur-mumbai-panaji-route" is something like 2350kms..
whereas "the delhi-agra-gwalior-indore-pune-belgaum-mangalore" is 2180kms..

any comments on the two routes??

bunny, the second route you mentioned isnt half as scenic as the mumbai route!! And im sure you would like to have fun doing this trip, rather than saving 100 odd kms? i would suggest you go for the former!
And if you need any help while near surat, do tell me!!
