Triplog approved.

@om: That is hardly the way to post a Leh ride! Unacceptable, actually. I would seriously suggest you to post the trip log and the pictures, directly, in this thread. That would really be lovely.

I don't mind posting here........but for that it will take a little time.

Before crashing that was fine.

I was posting each day, one day log. That was easy......this is a bit boring.....copying entire 20 days content and pasting .....copying pasting copying pasting....

but.....will do it anyways.

Day 1
Story:
A day before the meeting point was decided, somewhere in north mumbai at a famous Sai Baba temple. But the time was early morning 5am, means most have to get up at 4 in the morning. Sounds like a big challenge, not the ride but getting up early and this is a challenge that I will never complete successfully. I slept at 1 am and when I got up it was already 5am. Sandeep called me up (thank god he called otherwise I would have got up after sunrise) and I told him to carry on. I will catch up somewhere at Manor.
Some how got up from the bed, everything was packed and started moving to Manor. There were light rains but within couple of hours I was at Manor. Met the gang for breakfast. Also I was meeting few guys for the first time.
Soon we were back on the road and some heavy showers started. Riding condition was little difficult but riding in rain is fun too.
Just as we crossed Daman border we came to know Pratas had met and accident. Locals helped us to take him to a near by Hospital.
Till the time doctor looks after him we found some mode of transportation that will take him and his bike safely to Mumbai. Luckily we found one such transportation in a jiffy. His hand got a plaster and some wounds were on the jaw. He and his bike then were off to Mumbai. Also loading his bike on the van was a tough thing.
After some tea we started back with the ride. Some how we wanted to across Baroda by evening. For a late lunch we took a halt at a restaurant on the highway, don’t remember the name. But the food was delicious.
Some guys took a small nap and then we were off to Baroda. Till Surat most of us we riding near by but after Surat I and Rohit speeded up and took halt few kms before baroda bypass to wait for the rest. We took night halt at Baroda bypass. Here too I don’t remember the name of the hotel but it was a good place. Food was excellent and there was a lake view from the room. Room was big enough to fit us all in it.
After Dinner around 11pm we were flat on bed. It was a hard day but it was fun.
Log:
Total kms done: Around 480
Best Road: Manor to Surat.
Worst Road: Surat to Baroda.
Speed: Average 90km/hr
Rains: Light showers to continues pouring.
Incidents: Pratas’ accident. Ashish’s bike silencer comes off. Shivprasad slips on Rohit’s thunderbird.
Info: Vapi to next 20km is supposed panvati patch as termed by locals as most accidents take place in it.
Highway: Total trucking type. Very few cars on highway.
My Expenses for the day: Rs 600 Petrol, Rs 30 Breakfast, Rs. 150 Lunch, Rs. 80 Dinner, Rs. 20 water.

Photographs taken: Around 80 shots.
Funny Incidents: Shiv slipping in a funny way.
Memorable Events: Dinner time.
Any new thing learnt: MRF Zapper Q is excellent for riding on wet roads. Too much luggage no good.
Total hours of riding: 15
Today’s ride had series of events, a few tragic but all is part of motorcycle touring.

DAY 2
June 27th, 2008
Story:
Though everyone had sound sleep I had bugs in my bed. So in morning I was still hungry for more sleep but the hunger to ride was even greater. So my packing is as good as no packing, just waited for the rest to finish up and start the ride.
Around 7.30am ride began and today’s target was Sandeep’s native home. Tank was filled up and as we were cruising some how I got the info that Varun had met an accident few kms behind. I, Ashish and Ashish rushed back to the scene and saw what an accident is was. luckily because of Varun’s Judo skills he escaped from what could have become tragic. Though his bike was in complete tragedy.
His bike was then loaded in a rickshaw kind of thing and transported to Ahmadabad.
Rest went ahead to find the workshop but I with Varun as pillion, Sandeep and Prasanna were following the rickshaw.
Following at speed of 40km/hr was a big challenge for some one like me. Still this one I managed to complete successfully. Some how after couple of hours we finally reached the workshop. Man it was deep inside the city. Took some rest and the work on his bike started. Got to know it will take the entire day to finish it up.
So just after some rest and talks it was decided that the plastic group except Viral will now leave ahead.
We exited the city very quickly and managed to cross 40km from Ahmadabad before sun down.
Sandeep spotted a good place to stay on the opposite side of the road. It was quite a neat place. Sad that only we got to try their food as rest of the guys arrived late in the night.
One thing I must say, in the entire trip all stays were pleasant overall.
Log:
Total distance covered: Around 130km
Average Speed: 70km/hr
Average: 48km/litre
Best Road: Ahemdabad to the point where we stayed.
Worst Road: Riding in city.
Incidents: Varun’s accidents, Me and Gauresh going for shopping for his helmet in ahemdabad. (this story I will narate in person)
Memorable moments: Again dinner time and some photography on the hotel terrace.
My Expenses: Rs. 500 Petrol, Rs. 100 Stay, Rs.12 tes and biscuits, Rs.64 water and cold drinks. Rs.130 Dinner.
Rains: There were no rains today.
New thing learnt: Slow riding makes me sleepy.
Funny thing: All directions and help line numbers are written in Gujarati.

DAY 3
Story:
If I could I have seen today’s future in my dreams then it would have been a blessing in disguise. This was the toughest day for each and every rider.
Since yesterday’s destination, sandeep’s native home was not done we thought of doing it today. Even though we knew it was a good 450km from where we started today, we wanted to make that distance today itself.
Ride started smooth. We quickly reached Udaipur. Took a very good lunch at Udaipur bypass. And as I took a halt for fuel stop I signaled rest to keep going straight on NH-8. I came to know later than they accidentally entered Udaipur city but by the time they were back on the road I had crossed them.
Believing that they are ahead of me so just to catch up I was going very fast. But then I noticed that a km stone is showing Ajmer 169 that like I covered a lot of distance and still no sign of the gang. So took a break, called up sandeep, his phone was not in network but then later I got a call from him and got to know they were actually 60-70 kms behind me. So till the time they come up to me I took a nap more like some rest for 40-50 mins.
Finally Sandeep was the first one to arrive at point where I was waiting. Without any conversation we quickly started for Ajmer as we were behind schedule.
After couple of hours of riding it was dark and we still were 100km short of Ajmer. By now most of us were dead tired and actual distance to sandeep’s native home was still over 100km.
We were riding close by now but suddenly Ashish met an accident few kms before Ajmer. His bike slipped on sand that was there on border of the road near Ajmer bypass. Almost more than an hour went at that scene. So when we were back on the road. Body had entered its reserve strength. So all were about to go nuts.
Some how we all managed to cover few more distance and reached some where 20km to Ajmer. Thats the point where it was decided that those who are totally tired will now camp for the night outside a near by dhabaha and 2 others with Sandeep and me who were still able to ride more will continue to his place as it was odd that we came so far and didn’t meet his folks.
Now this part of the ride was a tough one. Even he didn’t know the correct address to his place, how dumb that is and it was past midnight. Some how after 80 more kms we finally reached his place. Dead tired and exhausted. His mother gave us some warm milk and as I saw the watch. The Mr. Time tells its 6.30 in the morning. Can’t believe we were riding for total 22 hours that day.
I was laughing at myself then. This day was as worst as it can get.
Log:
Total kms covered : 490km
Speed: 90-100km/hr
Halt: Too many halts taken
Memorable events: Me going ahead believing that rest of the gang is ahead when they are actually behind me by 50+kms
Accidents: 1
Best Road: Ahemdabad to Ajmer
Worst Road: None.
My Expenses: Rs. 160 stay, Rs. 600 fuel, Rs. 140 food, Rs. 10 Water, Rs. 100 Misc.

DAY 4
June 29th, 2008
Today’s ride started very late as we slept in the morning. I don’t know about rest but four of us who were at Sandeep’s native home started after 4pm.
After some heavy lunch and heavy I mean totally heavy we started to catch up with the rest of the gang who had already crossed Jaipur. This I got to know later. So now we were 60-70 kms behind.
So right now we speeded up and just after couple of hours we caught up with them. Luckily they had taken more halts so it was quick.
This is the time when it was night fall and heavy rains also had started. So we started slowly to move towards Delhi. But just after ramgarh the road was full of cracks and potholes. Riding was becoming difficult.
After while we decided that its no fun riding to Delhi right now. So lets stay in a near by hotel.
Luckily we found an excellent hotel for stay and the food too was good enough.
It was already late so after dinner we slept in no time.
This looked very small because the ride was started so late.
Right now we were behind schedule. So from tomorrow little re - planning was required.
Log:
Total kms covered: Around 200
Average speed: 100km/hr
Accidents: None (Thank God)
Best Road: Sandeep’s native home (Sambhar lake) to Jaipur.
Worst Road: Ramgarh to 90km before Haryana border.
Memorable Events: Stay at Sandeeps’ Native place.
My Expenses: Rs. 600 Petrol, Rs. 250 stay, Rs’ 250 food and drinks cold drinks that is.
Incidents: Transporting 2 bikes in Mahindra Max till Gurgaon.

DAY 5
June 30th, 2008
Story:
Today’s ride will be an easy one I knew before. Delhi was just 70kms from where we stayed last night so covering that distance hardly would take any time.
Within an hour we were in Gurgaon. Here now we decided that all plastic guys will not split from the metal group and find a service station to optimize our bikes.
Luckily right at the entrance of the city we found a guy who was riding to canought place and he said that there is a Castrol Bike Zone near it, somewhere in Laxmi nagar. So we followed him and in an hour we were where we should be.
The guys in Castrol Bike Zone were very happy to know we rode all the way from Mumbai to go to Leh. They did an excellent job on our bikes.
By evening all 4 bikes were completed. We now called up simi to know where her cousin’s place is as that was today’s night halt. It was some where in Tilak nagar I think that we got to know.
After 2 hours of agonizing ride we finally made it to the mentioned place.
Interesting thing was there was a sabka bazar named place just opposite the house. I with the entire plastic gang spent hours inside till they close down. What a shopping that was.
And they great thing is that the manager tells us that they open the store in the morning 6.30.
Thats it there and there I decided we are landing here first thing in the morning.
The metal gang too arrived by the time.
Later we went back at simi’s cousin place, had some good food and were off to bed. Except Uma who had arrived here by train. He was eager to ride so he continued till Chandigarh I think.
Log:
Best Road: Around Gurgaon
Worst Road: None.
My Expenses: Misc Rs. 100, Servicing Rs. 200, Shopping Rs. 300
Average: 40km/litre
Average Speed: 50km/hr in city.
Memorable Events: Shopping in Sabka Bazar.
Incidents: Sandeep’s tyre got punctured but was noticed inside Castrol Bike Zone. 1st puncture of the trip.

Day 6
July 1st, 2008
Story:
Here onwards I had feeling inside me that ride is going to get greater. We got up early morning, had a good breakfast at Simi’s cousins place and were straight off to Karol Bagh. All the metal group needed to check their bikes and all those whose bike came in train to Delhi needed a lot of work on it.
It took a lot of time here. It was already afternoon and still few things on bike were not completed. The plastic group were getting frustrated sitting doing nothing. So Sandeep and I decided that that let us (plastic guys) go ahead and ride till Chandigarh.
Within no time we just hopped on our bikes and exited the city as soon as possible. This was a start of a very fast ride as it was already past 3pm. And I think Chandigarh was over 250km.
We took lunch halt somewhere on the outskirts on North Delhi and just ripped our bikes for next 150kms.
Soon we even crossed Ambala before night fall. Road here onwards had work going in them so we had to slow sown.
At a steady pace then we started to move towards Chandigarh.
By 10pm we entered Chandigarh city.
Found a hotel in Sector - 24
Hotel Park View, I though must be an expensive one but was ok - manageable. Only food was expensive.
It was 11pm now so all hotels and restros were closed. We had to manage today’s dinner with maggie and sandwiches.
Today’s ride was a short one. I was not at all exhausted or tired so we had a great time to take a look at all the photos we have clicked by now. Talk on last 5 days and stuff like that. By 2am then the light were off of the room and our eyes.
Log:
Best Road: Delhi to Ambala
Worst Road: None
Memorable events: Chandigarh (It was my first visit)
Average: 45km/litre
Average Speed: 110km/hr
My Expenses: Rs.600 Petrol, Rs. 100 Misc., Rs. 550 Stay, Rs. 500 Food
