  • Planning to ride from mumbai to vizag on my RTR

    Hey guys

I havent posted in a long time .. been busy with my internship and stuff ..
I ride an RTR which I bought in Feb this year (4 services down and 6000 kms...)

Am planning on riding it down to vizag and back and i know its a long trip and hence i have a few fears

    1. The bike wont breakdown or sumthin if its ridden consistently at a high speed for a long time ... am asking this coz a dude i know told me that the bike wont be able to take it and it will overheat and ruin the engine or sumthin ... since its not oil cooled ... sounds silly ... but just checking

    2. Pre trip checks on the bike ... wat all shud i pay special attention too

    3. Stuff I need to take along

    4. Route suggestions ....

Thats all i can think of right now ... but will be back
    Cheers

pls post ur trip plan.... what day and covering what roads & places...

ur RTR can very much take the abuse. Don't worry. ALso, at what speed are you planning to cruise?

Gt a good synthetic oil into the engine and carry the following spares apart from the tool kit - engine oil bottle, new spark plug, headlight, brake & clutch levers (RTR's are costly, if the old Apache's are the same, get them), chain lube, 1/2 liter petrol in a bottle, water for you, snacks for u, a good torch light (even if you are riding only day time), extra tube, .... I know the list would go on! I think the distance would be abt 1300-1500 kms one way.

All the best and keep in touch with us in Hyderabad - we are midway in your journey.

        1. Dont worry dude... RTR is quite capable of making long rides.. It wont damage the engine even if u run at high speeds for considerable time but only thing u need to make sure is TAKE AN ATLEAST 15 MINS OF PIT STOP AFTER EVERY HOUR OR 1.5 HOUR RIDE. reasone being this is an air cooled engine and why take chances for engine to break down. I myself hav been to Goa from mumbai on Honda Activa. Then later to bangalore ooty mysore on my pulsar 200. It is always recomended to take 15-20 mins haults after every hour or so riding. It doesnt mind then at what speeds u ride thru that hour or so. Engine wont giv any probs.

        2. Well pre trip checks include checking the engine oil level and condition, adjust the stiffness of the rear drum brake(i dont knw if it's with disc or not, if with disc then no isseus), check ur tyre condition, check if the headlights r working properly or not also make sure to check the head light projection angle, coz sometimes the angle gets disturbed and the high beem goes way up in the sky making it useless.

        3. Well hydbiker has suggested u a long list of stuff to carry along. So from my side i wud suggest u to carry a map which shows the entire route, a small torch, a water bottel(which u can use in case of getting fuel from the gas station if u run out of fuel) an extra spark plug and basic first aid kit. Rest of the things u can take as per ur choice and riding habits.

        All the best..
        Ride safe..Ride high...
        Dont ride fast..Fly slow...

A cruising speed of 80 is good for RTR, anything more will definitely harm the engine in long run. Occasional 100 kmph is okay.

The route is very clear, "Bombay to Hyderabad to vijayawada to Vizag"

I advice not take a pilion, he will run away in the middle of the road and catch a bus back to Bombay.

ur pillion would give a serious thought to walk to the destination rather than riding a pillion on rtr....am serious.

The best crusing speeds for RTR's are between 80-95kmph. If u ask me i like 83-88kmph. Thts the sweet spot. But it can be thrashed at 115kmph+ all day if u can bare with the vibes, Trust me

                              1. It wont. As long as you maintain 80 - 85 K M P H. Give rest to the bike (& yourself) every hour or so.

                              2. Get the bike serviced. Check the clutch plates / brakes and condition of tires.

                              3. If possible - get a saddle bag.. take up necessary tools/ puncture repair kit and the foot pump.

                              4. Route : Hyderabad - NH9 - Suriapet - Vijaywada - NH5 - Eluru - Rajahmundry - Tuni - Vizag.

                              Good Luck for your trip
