Default My first bullet ride!!

It was mid-March when I bought my first EVER bike - Royal Enfield Machismo A350. I gave the bike for service instantly and coughed up 8k on new discs and other spares. A week later, I took the bike from the mechanic and headed to office. I started off from Rajajinagar and my office was in Bannerghatta Road. So, I had to ride for almost 20kms, on a Bullet, at 5PM!!

I started off smoothly and from then on it was only stop n go, stop n go, stop n go! Being not used to changing gears(I had learnt changing gears in any bike only 20days before buying the bull!) was showing off as I struggled to ride the bike in slow speeds without the bike switching off. The fun part begins here. The moment the bike stalled, I could hear horns of different decibels, piercing my ears and adding misery to my already-miserable state. I stalled my bike in 10 signals and to make things worse, the bike would stall ONLY when the lights turned green! My first bike ride was turing out to be a nightmare.

Lucky for me, I had a friend riding along with me in his Splendor and he was trying his best to pacify the impatient driving community that was holed up behind us. At the 10th signal, I simply gave up and asked my friend to ride my bike. He obliged and things became worse after this. I took his Splendor and felt that bike to be paperweight when compared to the bullet. And the gears and brakes were on the opposite side!! I had no control over the bike and was involuntarily doing wheelies while changing gears!

Traffic, to my bad luck, was very very bad that day. There were jams for upto 5-6kms and all my adventure was happening just at the beginning of such a long jam. I somehow managed to reach office without any wheelies but my confidence was virtually gone. I left for home in the morning, riding my bullet, but the "feel" wasn't there.

It's been almost 8 months since this incident happened and every ride has been a learning curve. I did ride my bike to the office after this, but with very little adventure. Bikers say "one needs to keep riding to become a good rider" and every word in this statement is true. My confidence is back not fully yet. Bike rides to the local hill station and 24hrs CCDs have certainly helped my cause.

That's my eventful triplog. None of my other rides have been this exciting. Mods, if this thread does not belong here, please move it to the right forum.

Felt the thump!

Hey there bud, that's a great read, & yes when I started riding the Bullet, the fear of stalling the bike was one thing which dreaded me each moment. And more so the fear of people honking & shouting slogans at me (haha).

See you on the road some time.

Happy thumping,
Prakhar
