Arrow My part of the Story!!

Finally, the thread is up. We both always wanted to open up this thread but blame it on our laziness or whatever that never really happened until someone broke Praful from the deep slumber while i was still busy with my slothfulness!!

Before penning down i am still scratching my head what to write else as most of the experience has already been expressed by one of my dearest friend, Praful.

For starters, few lines about Paradeep-our destination!!
"Port of Paradeep is the primary seaport in the Indian state of Orissa. It is an artificial harbour which accepts sea traffic via man made lagoons. Paradeep is emerging as a major investment in India with several upcoming steel plants including a gigantic $12 billion plant by POSCO, alumina refineries, thermal power plants, and a petrochemical complex. Paradeep will become one of the five or six major Special Economic & Investment Regions planned in India."

It was one of those days where i would visit Bhubaneshwar to enjoy my vacation(after the semester exams) during my MBA education. As i was in Bangalore then , my vacation would last only for 10 days. And this was just the day before when i had to catch a flight to Bangalore. So i was a bit skeptical as my parents won't let me out as i did utilise all the days roaming every nook and corner of the city and not to mention Cuttack.Yeah, those days even a 100km run in a day would mean some 'great' feat. So i couldn't assure Praful about my participation. Early morning i confirmed my bit and Praful reached near my flat in a jiffy which is a good 10kms from his flat.

I did let my mom know that i would be going to a place near Cuttack and i would be back as soon as possible.Dad was unaware of it and had he known about it i would have not been writing this log!!

It was my turn to be a pillion so i started fiddling with Praful's cam and it was feeling quite weird experiencing the cool winds coz at this point of time the sun in this part of the world is more like this>>

Time:5:22 A.M

We started riding at around 5:10 A.M and reached a Reliance petrol bunk to feed the prancing horse. After that Praful gradually built up speeds with the speedo needle dancing between 90-100km/hr.We reached Cuttack at 5:37 A.M.By then we had covered 30kms apx.

Entrance of Cuttack

Through Cuttack there is a state highway which leads straight to Paradeep and the distance is only 90kms. It's a nightmare to ride on that highway as it's a virtual death trap because of the gazillion trucks plying through that route each day.So we had to take a longer route from Chowdwar which is 30kms north of Cuttack. That route is actually an express highway which was undergoing construction work.

The flyover which straight leads to Chowdwar while the underpass leads to the state highway

Entrance of Chowdwar!!

The NH5 is as smooth as any Indian highway can get and maintaining speeds of 100km/hr was a piece of cake. After a small break before Chowdwar we then took NH-5A which was under construction.Road was quite smooth except for some diversions.

By then we started to feel the pinch of the sun and the infamous butt ache started showing up.As most of us know its always a hard time for pillion especially when ambient conditions are not favourable. So holding on my arse for 3 hours was quite a task and we had to take butt breaks in between which became an excuse for some photo-sessions.I am not repeating the pics already posted but i am posting some of em which are edited.

We reached Paradeep at 7:45 A.M. As as a typical port town we were greeted by numerous industrial establishments and fisheries. The port town has good roads and is kind of sleepy. Not much traffic to bother inside the city roads.Near the port it was a different affair due to the infestation of trucks and trailers.

Somewhere before Paradeep.

Note the serpentine queue of the trucks.

Superb roads in the town.

"This was the very place where the killer super cyclone engulfed the whole of city and claimed 10,000 in nearby districts.Eye witnesses say tidal waves towering over 10-12 feet gulped everything that came their way.Massive destruction was caused to the port.Numerous trawlers and small launch boats went missing.Nobody would believe the city has changed has so much changed in only 7 years where not a single tree was standing after the dreaded cyclone!!

After we had our breakfast we headed straight to a rocky embankment which was some 13kms from the city. The place is actually an estuary where river Mahanadi merges into the Bay of Bengal. You can actually see the difference in the colour of the water which was breathtaking.

Imagine the plight of the residents in those apartments when the cyclone occured. Now those flats are just there to tell the tale of some horror stories!!

After spending a good 20-25 minutes on the rocky terrain we decided to retreat. It was 9:00 A.M and the sun had even become more furious.Time for me to strap myself on the saddle and i knew i had to reach home as fast as i can.First we thought of taking the shorter but painful route but instead Praful insisted to take the longer one as it was faster since it was well paved. I had to maintain a constant 90-100km/hr for a majority of time. I am quite used to the vibrations of the Apache and the intake growl of the bike was more than music to my ears while i kept the throttle pinned up to the max. The bike in the sweltering heat didn't hesitate a bit but i had to show some mercy to it so i started varying speeds.

During a butt break, i checked my mobile and much to my horror i had got 7 missed calls from Dad. Boy, I am screwd!! It was already 11:30 A.M and to save my sorry arse i had to do some serious speeds. After we reached the NH-5 near chandikhol it was complete WOT for me except for a fuel pump break. The bike was returning somewhere around 38-40km/ltr.

Poor Praful had to do the pillon part with fewer butt breaks and in those extreme situation his condition was worse. I reached my home at 12:10 P.M and i literally ran to my flat after bidding adieu to Praful. When i reached home i ran straight to the wash basin to wipe off the dirt from my face which looked like some map being painted on someone's face with dirt.

It was an experience which was totally new for me and i will always cherish it forever. I always wanted to test my potential in going up one-above the usual so-called long rides I did but this ride even if it's a no long-ride by any margin ,the conditions in which we did this ride will always be there to remind us as this ride showed both of us our limitations(which we didn't find ). Period!!

Currently things are not going well my side, but i can assure all of you we both will do something which will find its place in the elite list!!

Talking Great going

OMG !! You guys are total lazy boys, turning up the goods after a year-and-a-half. Boy, am I thankful for that!

Coz we at BBSR were running out of ideas for taking trips. Earlier the xBhp BBSR wing was apprehensive of taking on Paradeep as a destination due to the state of roads that lead to there, turning right after Cuttack. Soumen had told me you guys had taken an alternative route, but didn't know the details...Now that it's up here finally, we'll be following suit soon. In fact, the other guys had been to Chandikhol and the three GIRIS (Lalit, Uday and Ratna) the last weekend itself, and I had missed the trip. No more, coz I will bug them until they take a stop at Chandikhol on our trip to Paradeep.

Till then, keeping filling the spaces with more trips around the city.
