Default I'm Back.. with my last ride

Hmm, did I get you there?

Well what I meant was, the last ride for the year 2008. Well its 2009 now anyway. Getting back to the ride...

Long wished, long pending, long ride….

I had been about 3 months since my last long ride in early October. This time I had the company of my good ol’ friends from school. They had planned to join by car, adamant as I am, I stuck to my decision to ride and enjoy the full experience rather than sleep in the rear seat of a car. Needless to say, I’m glad I did ride.

The plan was to ride around the Christmas holidays around Karnataka. The places were not decided, but the idea was to see different kind of places and not travel too much. We had plenty of time, a lil more than 5 days to cover the places. The rough plan looked something like this.

Bangalore – Hassan – Kudremukh – Gokarna – Karwar – Dandeli – Bangalore
Total distance: 1350kms (Approx)
Day 0: 24th December 2008 – Start early after office to halt in Hassan for the night
Day 1: 25th December 2008 – Head to Kudremukh from Hassan and stay there
Day 2: 26th December 2008 – See a couple of places and Head to Gokarna
Day 3: 27th December 2008 – Some more places to cover and head to Karwar
Day 4: 28th December 2008 – Pack up from Karwar to stay in Dandeli
Day 5: 29th December 2008 – Return to Bangalore after finishing morning Jungle safari

Well that was the whole plan and amazingly, we stuck to it. We had to catch up a few hours on the schedule, but things went on smoothly.

There are a lot of pictures and day wise details that will be added to this thread.

Prologue: Three months is almost an eternity without a good long ride. Lack of time and bike not being in the best of shape were the couple of reasons keeping me away from riding (and even xBhp). Well I’m back now! The bike needed some work, it took almost 2 weeks to get it back into shape, but it’s a beauty now. I love my KaRedZma again.

I had pre ride jitters just before the ride with me loyal friends and family trying to scare me (friends who are reading this… you know I mean YOU, yes YOU).

Day Zero:
I was supposed to leave on 24th evening after work; I rushed through my work with no mood to work. All I could think about was the five days that lay ahead of me. I rode home after work to pick up my luggage with cold air brushing my skin and a warm feeling in my heart. It was time get ride. My friends who were supposed to join in a car (Swift) had already started an hour before me and were waiting for me in the outskirts of the city.

I stacked up the tank bag on the bike, a backpack with my camera and lenses, all the riding gear on and got on to the NICE highway to meet them at the Nelamangala cross. The bike was doing great, good acceleration, tight brakes and bright HID lights. I was riding at 100kmph on the beautiful highway and poooofff!! Darkness got me confused for a second, well the bike was still running fine but the headlight was not working. This was definitely not good news for me. Five days to go and no lights; not gonna work.

I switched the light off and turned it back on after a few seconds and it started working again. What a relief to see it working. Well the problem seemed to keep coming randomly at intervals, but not too much of a bother.

I reached the meeting point about 40 minutes after I left home. Our destination for the night was Hassan, about 160kms from the point where we met. Since we had planned to start a bit early, we escaped the hundreds of tourist buses that rampage those roads at night. The roads were familiar and good so we were able to maintain good pace and reached Hassan by 11PM after a good dinner in Kamat hotel (after CR Patna).

Day Zero was over. The next morning we were to leave towards Kudremukh. Sweet dreams…..

Pictures will be added later. But as a start here’s a picture taken at Kudremukh along with the New Year wishes to y’all.

Haven't got all the pictures with me yet. Some of them are in the memory card given to my friend. Will start editing them tonight.

I think I am reading a thread by Sksy for the first time. Great to see you ride. As Sunny says, once a rider, always a rider!
