Default Ride to Alambara Fort

My first Trip Log in Xbhp.

I have always been an active reader in XBHP, but haven’t contributed much as such as a log or photos. Touring had always been in my list of weekend get-away but due to poor company I wasn’t able to do that. At Xbhp, I was able to find some real good xbhpians who had already been doing great rides.

Have done couple of rides with my friends to Mahabs and Pondi, but yet to do a proper touring/ride. With such ideas in my mind there came the 3-day weekend on May 1st week. Even Ananth contacted me for his Munnar trip, but since he was planning to do his trip from 29th I wasn’t able to accompany him – but after seeing his log – felt I missed a wonderful ride…
Was browsing over the Xbhp and seeing all doing the rides in that long weekend, me too planned along with my colleagues but all had some or the other reasons for not coming. Wasn’t able to join any of the Xbhp rides too, So Got prepared myself to do a small ride, thought of hitting the Mahabs, but it was regular one, so was thinking of something which I haven’t tried. Heard about the Alambara Fort, many times planned to do the ride to that place, but was missing it many times. So finalized the place and was about to sleep when I had a call from my friend that he would also join the ride as a pillion. Informed him about where we are riding and asked him to be ready for the ride by morning 6.

May 1st, morning woke up by 5.30, got ready and was set for the ride… Man it’s been a long time me in the riding gears… Jacket, gloves, helmet… and took my cam(which is more important J) all set and started from home and reached Murali’s(My friend) Place and picked him up.

Started the pleasant Ride, from TVM… after 10 min we are out into the ECR and the Morning ride with sun spreading its rays was awesome…was on the average speed of 80km…. not speeding much… after crossing Mahabs checked with my friend whether he needs a break (as he is a first timer for this kind of rides) he said no; so we directly headed to the Alambara Fort which is around 50 kms from Mahabs… we reached by 8.15 after an hour ride…..

The Fort has a big history, but at present it’s only the remains which were there after 2004 Tsunami. The Fort looks pretty decent at this condition, wondering how it would have been before tsunami… not much to see apart from the ruined fort walls… but once we climbed one of the fort walls it was an amazing view of the backwaters… as we were there at the morning hours… we saw lot of boats back from their fishing… was a wonderful sight….

So called Fort Entrance

Backwaters

Boats arrived after their fishing

Boat arriving after its catch

Now it’s time for posing… me first started with taking some snaps of my Lid and the forts, then it was our time to pose… took some random shots. By this sun was out well and its getting hotter….

My Lid

our Ride

So we bid adieu to the fort and started our way back home… the morning ride and the hustle in the Fort made us hungry… so was checking out for some place for breakfast, but wasn’t sure of the eat-outs there in the that village(Kadapakkam)… so planned to have at Midway-Restaurant which is quite a famous in ECR. It was 9 when we were having our breakfast with few idllies and juice. While jus talking abt the time we would reach back home… Murali was asking abt the Crocodile Park... I said that it’s on the way and if he wants we can check it out… so we headed towards the Croc’s place. I have been to this place before, but very long time ago when I was in primary classes.

There were rush in the morning hours and checked out the different species of Croc’s, Turtles, few snakes. There was one place there, where the caretaker allowed the public to touch the baby croc and a snake… I think the snake was empoisoned… even an elderly couple who was there for their anniversary along with their family took a risk of posing like that a Shiva and parvathi with the old man having the snake around his neck…. was fun watching… if we had been as group cud have tried but me and Murali decided against trying it and headed out….

After coming out… we had some cool drinks and headed back… as usual the roads were good and not much traffic…. So were able to ride easy…. Reached Thiruvanmiyur and dropped Murali at his house and reached my house by around 11.30 and checked the trip log – it was 230 kms overall.

Finally had made the much-awaited break which I needed… did the ride…. Also happy that I had done a tourer section in XBHP.

Hope everyone would like my Log and my captures

Nice ride, short and crisp log. At least we got to know a tiny part of the Alambara Fort and it's history. Pity it got destroyed by the Tsunami. The Croc park is not bad. The crocs look like they are laughing at you for some reason!

Thanks for sharing.
