Thumbs up

The place 'LEH' itself holds lot of magic to be unfolded. No matter how many times you read about it.... it beckons for more.

Wonderful trip there Shailay, log is neatly written & pics are just amazing. This is where I feel the urge to learn the nuances of photography. Many thanks for sharing till now & in anticipation for what's coming up !!

Default Day 03: June 04: Keylong To Sarchu (part I)

...continued from
Day 1
Day 2

Day 03: June 04: Keylong To Sarchu
Part I

The third day of the ride began with fresh and cool (read: chilled) breeze entering our room through the broken windowpane after the early morning momentum of the valley wind made the makeshift piece of cardboard, that covered it, fall. Surprisingly it coincided with the phone alarm, filling the room with the Nokia trademark symphony. We don’t know what wake us up, but within a couple of minutes we had Luke knocking the door calling for the breakfast. Half an hour later, we checked out and went straight to our bikes to mount the luggage. Alistair and partner had already left. Rick and Cal were preparing to return back to Manali (they had their London flight from Delhi scheduled on 7th). We bid them farewell and both parties set off almost at the same time. Luke and partner were to leave a bit late. However we had to stop barely after 10 mins from Keylong as Amit was feeling the rear end of his bike bit heavy. Well, a correction in the air pressure got it going. Jispa was reached in no time as we headed to Darcha. Darcha is a small and beautiful place. Here there are a couple of bridges on which the road crosses the Bhaga River. We met another foreign traveler there. This time not on wheel but on what we say in light moods, “11 no. ki gaadi”, i.e. by foot. He was Mark and told that he was British. Kudos man!
We made an entry at Darcha police post and had momos at a dhaba. The dhaba had a female manager. It also provided beds for overnight stay for Rs. 70/- each. There were 8-9 beds. All but for one beds were unoccupied and the sole occupant was again a foreigner.
“Ye gora parso raat se sota idhar”, said the lady in an irritated tone while we had the momos. “Uth ta hi nahi hai, main kya kare?”.
He had his cycle beside him and his snores quite evidently declared the depth of his dreams.
The road became good, nice, better and wow! as we progressed towards Zinging Bar. I lost the sight of Amit after Zingzing as a military truck stopped me. “Where are you heading? ”a good-looking military personnel asked me.
“Well, towards BarlachaLa sir.” I said.
“Are you alone”, he asked me removing his Aviators.
“We are two people on motorcycles. The other one must be a couple of minutes ahead.”
“Are you fine?” he inquired.
“Excuse me sir?” I questioned.
“I mean are you fine physically, I am a medical officer. I have some medicines. Are you feeling any headache or something?” he again asked as a couple of military jeeps passed by us. We were standing just next to a military facility near ZingZing bar.
“I don’t think so doctor.”
“Vomiting? Nausea? No? Nothing?”
“No doctor, nothing as such. I feel absolutely fine” I convinced him. The truck driving had by then began to rev up the engine perhaps signaling his officer that they might get late.
“Hmmm…Ok. Great. Well doc’s advice: drink lots and lots of water, especially at the passes.”
“That I’ll do doctor. Thank you.”
“And still if you feel any such thing then have a tablet of Diamox twice a day. One in morning, second in evening. You’ll be fine. Take care,” he signed off with a smile as the truck’s signature made me taste the soil of Zingzing Bar as it moved on.
We stopped just before where the road begins to climb for BarlachaLa. Bought some chocolates and had water. The “hardcore” ice area begins with BarlachaLa. Stopped a number of times within five kms both after and before the pass. Well the stops were very short because we had to reach Pang. So didn’t spend much time there except at the top of the pass. Later did we realize that had the breaks been longer, or for the matter of the fact, of any duration, it could have hardly mattered. Of course the pleasure and feeling which riding gives to a rider, especially at such places, sometimes tends to send his senses that thinks about expecting the unexpected into hibernation. The other side of BarlachaLa had many offerings awaiting us.
