Default Motorcycle Battery maintenance

Well, i thought there should be a common thread for discussing all battery related discussions and maintenance queries.

now to start wid i would like to give few tips on maintaing the battery for long time.

> always fill the distilled water in ur battery every six months
> do not rely on service centre for this job[personal experience]
> just give 10-20 rs to battery shop and have water filled.
> make sure the battery terminals are coated with petroleum jelly/wax, as this would prevent battery terminal corrosion and self discharge rate.
> do not unnecessarily make ant power modification, if required then increase capacity of battery,
> use kick if ur bike have, if bike is left unused for over 1 week.

You don't have to go to any battery shop to top up the electrolyte level. Just get a bottle of distilled water from a petrol bunk and fill it up yourself using a big syringe or a small funnel.

Switch off lights (headlights, pilot lamps) before starting the engine.

Make sure that the bike runs for a reasonable amount of time between every button-start. Ride the bike for atleast 5kms every time you start it so that the battery has ample to recharge itself after a button-start.

Ok so I was getting my P200 serviced, the svc guy tells me to have my battery charged.

Now what does that mean? He says go to a shop and they will connect wires and charge the battery.

Point being, I'm using the bike for ~2 years and never had any problem. No mods done either. So won't the battery get charged while riding? I do very little night riding.

Anyone who can shed light on this oddity?

since ur battery is 2 year old....it might be not producing the required voltage so it becomes necsessary to chrge battery on constant rate .... in our bike the rpm vary so the charging is not constant....
