< MODERATORS PLEASE PARDON IF AM REPEATING, I dont want this to go unnoticed among older threads >
In case your wheel is running more fast than others out of emergency, please follow this HABIT. ALWAYS KEEP IN MIND THAT BEING TOO FAST/TOO SLOW CAN LET YOU CHOOSE HEAVEN or HELL ![]() so avoid provoking & being provoked to race on public roads. LIFE IS PRECIOUS not just to YOU but OTHERS too. ![]() 1. Dont panic on the road, be cool & you can also be fast. Or else you will make others panic too and end up screwing everyone, yourself too. 2. Your speed in planning SHOULDNT be greater than the speed you are on road. 3. Be steady on a single lane as far as possible, and indicate before switching. 4. Make sure that you dont see a vehicle just to the back of your shoulder or something coming almost in parallel with you. You wont see these two positions on the mirror. Take care of that, otherwise you will end up getting locked with the other one. 5. Make sure you confirm to see these things before overtaking. > There is no other vehicle 'overtaking' (O) or 'planning to overtake' (PTO) the vehicle you are going to, from either of the side. Or you will end up becoming a sandwich. ![]() And no living being is trying to cross the road. > Whether the vehicle you are PTO is steady on a lane and not even inclined slightly towards your lane. DONT EXPECT THEM TO INDICATE. And in case you badly need to O, 'HONK HEAVILY &, KEEP SWITCHING HIGH BEAM' (nights). (HHKSHB) > TRY AVOIDING O BETWEEN TWO/MORE VEHICLES IN PARALLEL AND/OR IN ONE LINE (when in 2,3,4lane/ lane discipline broken) If you have no other option, check all vehicles O the ones You plan to O, from all sides. Do indicate to a side [alongwith HHKSHB] to let one among those in front of you know that you are fast approaching and going to take their side (that can save you by stopping them from crossing your way too, if they are planning to switch lane or O) AND be sure you indicate to a side towards your back too (that you think will be safer if u need to decelerate/brake) until u reach the middle of the vehicle you are O. I Repeat>> {DO HHKSHB all the while} 6. If you are quite sure of hitting someone DONT ALWAYS GO FOR BRAKES. First of all check your rear view mirror for vehicles behind and also towards either side. If the vehicle behind is close enough, indicate and either slow or speed up your vehicle to dodge/tackle to the other lane rather than depending on the brakes. Make sure of the position of vehicles in front too. YOU SHOULD KNOW THE BEST OF CALCULATIONS & NO ONE ELSE CAN KNOW IT BETTER THAN YOU. Do TAKE CARE. ![]() FUN ON BEING RASH CAN GIVE YOU FREE PASS TO HELL. Be the BEST among WHEELS, by being Smarter & Safer. Remember that only kids getting provoked, not bikers. ![]() Please participate in this thread and contribute to road safety |

Honking heavily should be avoided as much as possible in plains but should be used as frequently as possible read "on every blind corner" in the hills.
I for one am one crazy honker on a hill! Can't live without the horn there. Not one blind curve I miss. However in plains it is advisable to use the dipper wherever possible.

very true brother, Honking is a must in hills. As per me on plain roads in India, The thing which I have experienced is with honk n dipper is okay, but rather than depending on horns and flash, I think its our personal judgment and maturity which pays up finally. Well if another person on bike (i wont call him Biker for obvious reasons ) wants to race with you, when you riding fast (in case of emergency). Well he is endangering his life, your life and other's life as well. One incident happened, when I was going to service center to get my bike serviced. Another guy came on his bike and all the time till that long stretch he wanted to race with me. But damn him, I dont mix my motorcycling with some fools ego, so i decided to ignore and move on my own pace. He finally came parallel to me while I was riding and asked me lets race. I simply said I love my bike and myself, hence find someone else. And as he opened his helmet visor, I could smell the liquor in his breath, mind you he was riding too and was parallel to me. Then he answers stupidly, "arrey life ka kya hein kal kisne dekha hein, race karte hein maja ayega" I was like Thanks but No Thanks, he went away disappointed. But knowing that these people are on roads, I always make sure that I also realise if people riding/driving in front of me are sane. If I sense anything wrong (where I may be right or wrong), I simply slow down and distance myself from them. As on Indian roads I have learnt onething, that I may be riding properly but others may not. So its like a dodge game here, where we have to save ourselves from other. But basically all of us should Ride Safe, Ride Sanely and obey traffic rules and you will enjoy it and so will your bike

@ ken cool, kurtrules, Shivanshu: I too go with you guys, periodic honks and switch lights.... I meant the same, but put in a wrong usage. Heaving honking can cause panic among some drivers. It should be avoided. @ Shivanshu: I do the same thing to kids who race on public roads, keep my speed and discourage them. But what I cannot tolerate is the break in discipline and the meddle with others safety. I just make them stop on the side of the road and make them realise what safety really means, but not at the cost of safety, so always not possible. I have taken the roads of Chennai, Bangalore, Mysore and those in Kerala and I find that drives in Chennai dont have Discipline 'D' and awareness in their dictionary. Drives in Bangalore have a bit more of D,( but not near atleast the required D). Mysore drives are dangerous (am talking about the heavy wheels) blind speeding and lack of concern. And the roads and peoples in the outskirts of Mysore towards Kerala need to be aware of basic safety. those are like village areas all the cattle, cowdung drying and business related to it are done in the middle of the road which has a width less than that of a lane. Drives in Kerala are much better in terms of Discipline, but not when it comes to racing. Here racing is not just between 2/3 vehicles, they race with the whole traffic till the end of their journey. Here the buses are the killers, hell speed mixed with lot of rashness and sudden breaking especially those in Ernakulam - Calicut - Thalassery - Kannur roads. they take curves like there's no one else on the road. Forgot to mention about the Chennai drives, the one which I hate a lot. They dont care giving way to ambulances,YES !!! ![]() ![]() ( I had to punch someone in this regard, but not intensionally (I hate hurting somebody), it was more like a 'give me one') There are people who race with ambulances too . But those in Kerala is what I love, they give way and indicate others too.![]() These are my personal experiences, please share if you have a different one. How are these in Mumbai, Delhi and other cities. Presence of MIND and self CONFIDENCE is the primary aspect of safety, not what brand your riding gears are. |

@thre4ad starter ; most of them out here including me will agree with your points but when it comes to implementing on road many of us fails.
all can say but few can do, every day i start my ride by kissing on handle bar and prayer but before couple of years things was not like this i was one of them who used to provoke others and easily aroused, even with my 125cc freedom i used to chase 200 and 220cc's and all who know me used warn like hell But that didn't work out until my first horrible crash, i paid 25,000+ for repairing My Brand new KARIZMA and learned a very good lesson ![]() There after all of them noticed a dramatical change in my riding But this didn't last for long, my instinct again returned and i became more aggressive on road.I learned my second lesson in my dad's car and this time even i got hurted badly and PREEMINENTLY learned a lesson ![]() There after when it comes to ride or drive am a completely new being i avoid risk's on road as much as i can and am enough confident that i can control my instinct to some great margin. So i think its not about the awareness or on rod experience but about the personal experience that most of us like me will learn valuable lessons all knows how to say But those who felt the Hell will surely implement it, when it comes to mine, it took two great incidents to learn thinks in its on way cheers

Happens with quite where there are hell lot of people living without having any basic knowledge of traffic rules or respect for other people on road riding or driving or walking.Oftenly while crossing a junction cyclist/pedestrians ride/walk in their own world So what I do is that stand still in front of them and honk heavily

@ vineeth areth: Thats really great. Cheers!!! Itz not an easy task but you made it practical.
Those without proper knowledge on riding and safety are KIDS on road. Because instincts like the one you said are the nature of kids and temporary in Men. Now you are not the one you used to be. So implementing these on road safety might be easy for someone like you. And itz not so far if you begin feeling that your vehicle is very much a part of you. Then, you will realize the real pleasure of 'Biking'. There's a lot more than the word tells. so your quote "all can say but few can do" does not live any longer. Quote : "So i think its not about the awareness or on rod experience but about the personal experience that most of us like me will learn valuable lessons.." ya dude itz so true, but it might be too late by then. Am also a keralite and know very well how Kannur - Thalassery buses ply. Do take care dude. @ haxor: Ya ! Frightening them is the only way of helping them to know what might have happend if..... and if you add "take care" will release your stress on them and They wont forget the incident anymore. Take care dude
