  • [xBhp Universal Thread]: Buying a second hand (used) Superbike

    Hi All..

I am planning to buying a Used - 2006 Kawasaki Ninja ZX 14.

I haven't seen the Bike in flesh yet and would be checking out the bike after a week or so.

I need to know what are the factors to be considered before buying the Used SuperBike.

Can some one give me a Checklist / Things to see before buying the SBK ?

Some Pics of the Ninja that i am looking forward to buy...

    Query Approved.

@all: I would request everyone to spare the "oohh" and "aahh" part and post some relevant information which would actually be helpful for the person concerned.

dude if u wanna import FZ1 from foreign then you have to pay 88% tax on the existing price of the bike and it'll go beyond 10L so i think you should wait for kawasaki ninja 250r or you can get a used honda cbr 600rr or yamaha r6 or even FZ6

Ankit, FZ1 would cost around 7 Lacks i believe (Gray Market)

Also, saw in some threads that Yamaha is getting it to India in near future.

well i would like to say

Y why a zx14 thats a beast and not frankly made for india. u are better off with a Fz or a Z750 or SV650. at the very least a cbr600. this is a waste 0f 200horses. this one should cost u around 10lakhs . as long as u are getting used get a nice street bike or a good cbr600 will be easeir to drive , maintain and yes easier to have fun.

FZ1 for 7 lacs ?? when and where... A brand new one ??

a couple of months(3-4) when dollar was 37 INR, FZ1 costed 7.5- 8lacs. Now at dollar sitting at 50 INR.. Its stands somewhere at 8-8.5 now.

No way you can get it at 7lacs.. may be a seconds you can get.

Well.. I was looking for a 400 , But the deal (for ZX 14) was priced a bit too low and within my budget and hence hooked on to it. If not this ZX 14 , for sure it would be a 400 or 600.

Sorry Kriss, It could possibly be a FZ6 then.. It was there in some thread..
                        couldn't search it exactly now.

Ananth .. careful man .. I am not going to spoil the party by posting the price but I think you should take this one carefully .. unless the owner missed a 0. I am not a SBK owner and nor have I imported a bike so I guess you should take some serious guidance from other owners on this forum. Maybe rossiter too as he had put up some concerns over grey market bikes in another thread. Finally check the legality and see if it has a clearance at the police station.

Yeah Thanks Archi. Would do the same.. I hope he is a genuine seller as he insists in finishing the deal through Ebay's Vehicle Purchase Protection option. The VPP option would help me prevent any loss and also to get back the money if i dont like the Bike.. At the end of the day, the bike's condition + legality matters more than the owner.

@ ananth: If you are looking to bike a SBK which cost around few lakhs, i think it wouldn't be a big deal to travel to the location where the bike is and check it out in flesh!!!
Bro its an SBK, its a once in a lifetime buy... spending a couple more thousands for flight charges shouldn't hurt.....

Before planning to visit the bike, suggest you to have a check list handy....
