The "Oil cooled" deal is a misnomer. Basically, there is a small cooler for the engine oil to help it maintain optimal viscosity. That's about it. The engine is still air cooled.

Liquid cooled engines have a proper pump driven setup that circulates a fluid that cools the engine.

The standing joke on xbhp was that BAL forgot to add "is" in between "Oil Cooled" on the P200

On a BAL P200/220 the oil is being cooled to help maintain its viscosity , whereas in a real liquid cooled bike, there is a liquid that is pumped around the engine just for the sake of cooling it down.

ok whats the point of maintaining viscosity?

Btw if i am right liquid cool, works the same as coolant in a car or a nuclear reactor.

Maintaining viscosity/thickness of oil is done to maintain the optimum level of lubrication of engine.

and yes. liquid cooled in cars & bikes is the same... yes similar to that used in a nuclear reactor...

Synn & Sandeep summed it up. Guess the thread can be closed!

Quick koshun: Can someone list all the functions of an Engine Oil in our wet clutch bikes?

PS: This is not OT!

Dry clutches are used to reduce internal engine losses from friction due to oil cavitation. In a perfect world they are exposed to the air stream and are kept cool. In real life, they overheat on the grid and generally become useless after 20 seconds of 'dragged engagement'. They require frequent replacement and (as noted previously) are very noisy when disengaged.

As far as i know most MOTO GP bikes run on dry clutch
