  • Apache or not?

    Hi all,
I am soon going to buy my first bike, what should I buy.
    Some considerations are:
    1. My height is slightly above 6 feet (probably 6'2'')
    2. I am a software engineer and have to travel atleast 20 Kms for office.
    3. I live in Pune.
    4. I need a bike with good mileage and looks but top speed is not desired.
    5. Earlier I had a scooty so I have a relatively less biking experience.
    6. My budget is less (< 65k on road)

After a lot of research and test drive of Pulsar, CBZ, Apache I narrowed down to Apache 160 rtr (because there are too many pulsars) and I really loved apache's power but am still confused whether I should go for it or not because
    1. I have heard that it has vibrations.
    2. Quality of Service of TVS
    3. I am also considering TVS flame.
    4. I am new to bikes and dont know whether I can handle it well

Need your help guys. should I go for it?

First of all.. welcome to xBHP..

Why isnt GS150 / Unicorn on your list? seems perfect for your requirement.

Apaches are not v good for tall people(like you n me)

Flame is good but GS/Unicorn are the best commuter 150cc bikes. OTR Pune prices will stay inside your budget. Unicorn though will have some waiting(it always does). GS150 I think is readily available.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

even im slighty over 6 feet tall and i own a apache 180. I feel comfortable with this bike and i dont feel any back pain, but people say it looks small for me Travelling 20kms daily would not be much of a problem because apache scores in flickabilty which aids you in traffic and vibrations are there but not throughout the rev range. Please test ride an apache to know wether you can live with the vibrations.

If you want reliabilty and smooth ride CBZ Xtreme/unicorn/gs150r will be the bike. But it is not as powerful as the apache. choose the bike to your requirements.

            GS150 hmmmm
            will test that....

I dont know why but I dont like unicorn.

I tested apache but do not know whether I was able to go to 60 or not so as to get an idea of vibrations.

The looks and power of apache drives me crazy. I felt zero on pulsar 150 as compared to that....

LOLz People said so when I drove scooty.

BTW I am pretty much in mood to buy this bike

I just want to be sure that I am taking the right decision.
and also If I buy this then which one will be the best?
Refresh or Fi, rear drum or disk?

Yes , the Apache is the right decision... Once you hit 7K rpm and you will forget all other bikes that you have mentioned .

Anyways , the rear disc is good.... about the Refresh /RD / Fi , its upto you ..I have the Refresh with rear disk .. I didnt go for the Fi as i read about the problems that people face ...

                Best of luck ....

if you liked apache,go for it,though I'd suggest you give the GS150 a try...

Just test ride the Apache, see if you are comfortable with it while riding.

Otherwise i would suggest the GS150/HH Hunk!!

Personally i would suggest you to go with gs150 best commutor in this segment but since you are very much towards apache, then take a proper test ride and decide.
                      All the best

I was also thinking for few days about what these funda about everywhere RTR180 is small etc comments.Since I owned a Pulsar 180 earlier as well ,I feel the Bend riding position of RTR series is what makes some consider the bike as kiddo bike ?Placebo Effect?

Why not Apache RTR180?It is not that small.A Mindset after seeing RTR that is!

Harshit, Why don't you try CBZ-Xtreme (b'cos you mentioned you don't like Unicorn). GS150R would also be a nice choice. How about Hunk ?

@Harshit - Reading your posts, I think you value 'feel' while riding.. RTR bikes have a superb feel factor.. But the RTR 160 does have a lot of vibrations for sure..

You've heard right! it's really vibey!

You'll hav to keep it below 45ish or above 75-80ish... dat's what a friend of mine just told me over the phone. he's got an Fi version.

but he's mentioned in his first post that top speed is not a major requirement... so even tho 7000RPM and beyond is sweet... it's not what he's looking for.
