Default Buying an R15. Help needed!

Hi Guys,
I'm planning to buy an R15 next week. Though, for me, I haven't even considered the ZMR and the 220, cos of the ultimate technology and I want a bike which I can look forward to riding everyday. I believe that feeling only comes with an R15 in the country right now. Correct me if I am wrong.

Although, I'm having a hard time deciding the colour. I know its personal choice and asking around on message boards for a colour seems a little funny. But I want to know a couple of things.

Red is out of the picture, since I had a red bike for two years, I like the Yellow and the Blue. I'd have blindly decided on the blue colour had it not been the colour of 8 out of 10 R15s. But Yamaha has come out with a new blue with the other three racing colours.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the 'old' and the new blue. That would help a lot.

Also, I plan to remove the sari guard (just doesnt go with an R1 derivative now!) and the rear mudguard (the part below the tail light, the flap). I know the sari guard is no hassle to remove, but do I have to consider anything while getting the mudguard removed?

Does Yamaha give any kind of new decals, stickers on any part of the bike, in their list of accessories? I think the back is pretty bland. specially stands out (negatively) in yellow as it looks too plain.

Is it possible to perk up the sound of the bike from the silent hum (which is great actually, but a sports bike needs to have some character) to a more revvy grunt? Maybe an air filter or something.

I apologize if I seem ignorant, but I only know a lot about riding the bikes, never ventured into what makes it go.

Yamaha is giving LED parking lights as part of their accessories. Can someone please show me how it looks like.

Everything else, in my opinion, is great in the bike. Yes I'm fine with the tyres too, they are meant for the bike.

Also, is it possible to add a lap timer in the bike? Much like the Apache's. I'd only want it if its a simple procedure. I don't want to mess with the electricals or the aesthetics of the bike.

Very excited will post pics as soon as i get it.

Only the decals on the side panel has changed (and the Horn mounts have changed in the NEW R15.

If you into touring, the saree guard is a boon in disguise, helps tie up stuff and all!
Havent got to see a bike without the rear mud flap though!

No, except for the RIM stripes which come as standard in new bikes. You can get them in any sticker shop man! I know a member who made his own custom decal with his xBHP ID, DONT try to do that your ID is not cut for it :P

Air filter will do no good, except for the auto rickshaw sound if not kept inside the box. Avoid it!
Ride it for a good 5K kms, then throw the cat con out of it!

They are grossly overpriced! You will get LEDs for cheap in your local garage stores and all!

I alweays wanted to do this kind of a mod, only for displaying the clock on the R15 (I also have an RTR)
I tried finding a cheap chinese keychain for that, but cant seem to find a good one that gells with this.
There are sigma consoles out there, but am not so crazy about it! I use my Phone GPS to track my time, lap, routes and altitude

Thanks a lot Satyen! Much help.

Though about the difference in the old and new Blue, the decals are still the old ones, which i like more. I was hoping that there was something else. So I could buy the blue AND stand out. Too much I guess. Maybe Yellow then.

I just wanted stickers, something like a stripe preferably, to stick to the rear. Will check out my options.

"That's what good bikes do I guess, gets one interested in the 'biking' part and not just going from a place to another."

Actually there are slight differences in the decals, like the one above the head lamps, and AFAIK a small change in the side panel too....

Checkout the custom modification thread, you can request or review some neat decal mods! If i were you, I would design something by self !

chuck the sari guard ASAP but i suggest you keep the mud guard, you don't want your pillion to hate your bike!besides since the tyre is slim it wont look so good either!
and the LED is over priced, get a cheap one from some place else!

first of all congrats for choosing a great bike... as for the color i personally owna Black R15 and after the launch of new racing colors i'm totally fallen for the yellow.. it looks very sporty and neat.. my vote goes to the yellow.

I heard from my dealer that the R15 is getting re-vamped and coming out with some cosmetic changes, led lights & tires are getting bigger and better but you will have to wait till march for that.

If you are in a hurry then go for the yellow.. chuck the saree guard but keep the mudguard on.. cuttin it off would sure spoil the looks.. and for the exhaust note, i feel what satyen said is right.. ride around till 5k with stock and then remove the cat... would be cool.

thanks a lot you guys, its amazing to have good advice so conveniently.

thanks for the tip Ranjith, I certainly wouldn't want my 'pillion' to mind!

I was already inclined towards the yellow, but after such positive input, I think I'll go for it.

I hadn't even thought about getting a new bike, was quite satisfied with my Apache. But the day I rode the R15, I knew I had to get my hands on it. It is in a completely different class.

In my opinion, the fact that, in spite of being a racing oriented bike, this bike beats the other commuter/wannabe racing bikes in their game in almost every category that matters. and ofcourse the Japanese Sports Bike tag.
