Question Help required

Hi Guys
I'm in a dilemma for last few days on making a decision. I thought this is the best place to share.

Here I've been thinking very hard on selecting one of these bikes - HD Roadster Royal Enfield (RE) C5/Classic 500. I know both of them belong to different segments of comparison, but still they solve the following...
Purpose - Cruise all day long
Use - Long ride of a 3-4 days, once or twice in a year

Here's what is running on my mind & some of them could be from the perspective of what the world/others see it.

Harley Pros - Style, legendary, sure to turn on heads, comfortable, potato sound, HOGS community, power, love V-Twins
Harley Cons - Exhorbidant cost, affordability, compromise on Roadster 883L instead of my dream Fatboy or Super Glide, not sure it can withstand Indian temperatures

RE C5/Classic Pros - Style, legendary, comfortable, practical, price, proven on Indian roads
RE C5/Classic Cons - Single cylinder, less power (compared to 883L), may not be a head turner, yet another common bike

Apart from this, there's a great risk of being expelled from family on buying any HD

Guys, please pen your thoughts if I'm thinking crazy or how do you think I should settle down. Thanks.

Brother, I really don't know how you could pit the classic 500 against any HARLEY. Dude there's just no competition with harleys. The only preblem I see in buying the harley is the last point i.e. Being expelled from family home. If buying harley means that you cant live with your family then it's not worth it.

Otherwise if you can afford it, go for it. I don't think you'll repent it.

like parth said,if going for the HD means being expelled from the family,it's not worth it IMO...C500 has got great reviews.I even got a chance to ride and have to say,it's simply superb...you can't go wrong with either of the bikes here...best of luck

Well dude, I'm not comparing 883L with C5, I'm only confused as selecting which one as both of them meets my requirement. My heart says HD, but the brain says C5.

Again, a thought on different grounds about HD. 883L's engine is atleast 2 decades old technology (actually quarter century now), is it worth buying for such a huge price except for the build & ride quality? Hope the ride quality is better than C5. The tech spec is not that huge different too between 883L & C5. Can those V-twins withstand our tropical summer temperature? I know I can wait to obtain the feedback on the temperature part, but still not sure if it would.

Last but not the least, hope the HD could clock several hundreds of Kms with regular services & without major components changes.

C5 definitely - much better bang for your bucks, and less worries about owning a super expensive motorcycle (XL883) in India. I would say wait till April 2010 and buy the classic 500 chrome - that is all you the bike you need!

And here's a picture of the 883 for you anyway. IMHO, the Chrome classic 500 will look way better than this.

Lol, not mine. I took these pictures last month in a different country. I am not a big fan of Sportsters (aesthetically), and the only Sportster I like is the XR1200.

The 'true' Harleys start from the Dyna Street Bob, in my opinion. In case, 8 lakhs+ is a lot of money to blow on a basic Sportster. Half of the money would be paid toward import duties, and that is what makes the pricing unreasonable.

You penned down exactly what I think. I'm settling down for 883L 'cause that's the one I can afford. That the money I'm betting on Scorpio SLX!!!. That's the reason I've so many (unnecessary) questions. In my opinion, 883L is still one in Harley family, I still get the "potato" sound. Customization, mods can still be done on 883L & surely is a head turner.
