Question A Royal Challenge

My dear biking seniors,

I am in trouble to finalize on a royal challenge...
to finalize a bike

First- intro about me
A mechanical engineer ,183cm tall, 70 kg approx
presently employed in shift duty (hardly gets good time to roam around except those off days)
My driving style - Defensive braking type ( self made stupid term) - i.e i don like to hit the breaks unless and until i cannot decelerate as quickly as required... like to maintain my average speed depending on road conditions (often above 60 in good tared roads- always),
low on experience handling high power bikes with fairing (r15's & others)
& hate to lag behind slow movers...
I do grow a sense to belonging to my machine & gadgets, so its hard for me to leave or sell em- so i do mean to keep em for long time...(bike too included when i get one )

Second-
i am looking forward to get a bike (First One)

and my needs are-

-good riding posture, straight seats of bullet attracts me a lot in this case..
-Ride comfort ,easy to handle in most terrains (weight of bike does not matter much in reference to bullet)

-good gear shift and light clutch

Use-often for a visit to multiples, shopping near by in city limits..
and may be short trips(<250 kms one way) if i get company (its tough at-least in Ahmadabad)

I am focused on the Royal Enfield Classic as recently my present roommate got this one, took a ride on it & I can say the experience in words...

i have some doubts on this as i my former roommate at Chennai had a Bullet Electra 5S, which created some trouble (often) and was hard to fix..

troubles include, oil leakage from Gearbox, starting trouble, fuse (often blows the fun in the middle of a ride)
But the sound it gave with the new double funnel type silencer (locally sourced) would turn everyones heard to find the rider...and i love that...
Also the way it confuse the people on road to roll their eyes to find the source of this Dhuk Dhuk noice-
I don think they make way for the bullet, its just they hide from the noise

I am ready to sped upto 1.5L, coz more than that would blow a hole in my savings( this one already will do enuf)

Queries are-
1.Do the new UCE of RE Classic is maintenance free, though i donot expect the refinement like unicorn, but still want to know..( its tough to push this 180kg behemoth with a flat tire for more than 2 kms )

2.braking issue, hard braking in classic ? side effects...

3.Is Classic better than the Thunderbird ( i like the pinion back support here) which seems to be like a cruiser bike for me ?

4.For a long run in the silent way does the new Honda CBR wud be more fun, even in high range to drive? compared to a Bullet?

5.Do the clutch lever gets tougher to use in long rides on a bullet?

I have read the Royal Enfield Tractor thread and that was such a good composition, so i request all my seniors here, especially the Jap bike fans to challenge my hearts wish to divert to CBR or any other good bike..

planning to test drive the RTR's , R15 & the ZMA's soon...

Hey adi

R15 is the best one for you.

riding posture - its comfy
Ride comfort - R15
low on experience - The R15 teaches you how to ride a bike
You can use her in city limits but you will have to compromise with low end torque as its a monster after 5000 rpm
the braking is second best post ninja.
For a long run in the silent way does the new Honda CBR wud be more fun, even in high range to drive? compared to a Bullet? CBR has not been launched but R15 is more fun to ride
Do the clutch lever gets tougher to use in long rides on a bullet? dont know about bullet but not with R15 as there are people who have done saddle sore on it without any hiccups

Gray-haired riders don't get that way from pure luck.

You don’t stop riding because you’re getting old, but you get old when you stop riding.

^ i own a R15, it's not comfortable, it's very very sporty, takes time to get used to. My wife has a habit of putting her weight on me when she seats behind, that is more pain in the wrists ...

If you love sporty bike, R15 hands down. If you love long trips, CBR is the new kid on the block, more torque than Ninja and with C ABS, it will change that bad habit you have.

EDIT: Confession, i posted without reading you comment, but now i have read it.

You are a tall guy, R15 will not suit your requirement, but Karizma can.

You live in Ahemdabad, i use to do up and down from Ahemdabad to Baroda on R15. It's pain, to drive R15 in traffic, i bought her, because 1) I was in love with her, 2) She was going to be ridden on highway most of the time.

I would recommend only 2 vehicles to you. Karizma and CBR.

If you plan to keep the bike for long and are looking at a trouble free experience, good riding comfort, why dont you look at the Honda CBR250?
Its almost close to your budget.

Why haven't any one recommended the niche bike bullet..?

i dint like tht style of ZMR, but wil try the ZMA sure..
R15 is on my list, as it was the first one recommended to me by my friend for its superb handling & aerodynamic body at high speeds ...

when i can see a CBR for a test ride or just to see in real? only in april' 11 ?

I have gone thru P220 and R15 n now using RE500 classic.
I bet once u r onto 500 classic, u will forget everything.
U cant ENJOY the ride on R15. I sold off it due to uncomfortable sitting position where u always keep ur back bend at 45 degree.
I am not criticizing here personal liking of any person here but telling my personal
experience here.
Just test ride RE500 classic.

Karizma(be it ZMA or ZMR) or CBR250R will suit your requirement nicely

with ZMR you'll get some extra goodies over ZMA though about looks, its subjective..CBR250R is a killer among all Indian bikes..

WOW, my story is just opposite, i went from RE500 to R15 and i love it. I hated RE500 for it's dum down drag filling, R15 is like rocket if you just jump from one bike to another...
PS: I am also not criticizing here, it's personal liking of any person here but telling my personal experience here.

EDIT: OP, i would still not recommend you R15, you are big guy, go for the CBR
