Default Ninja 250R or Hyosung GT 650R?

Hi guys, this is really a dumb question, although I know that both the bikes are completely different, I am confused on what to buy. The time has FINALLY come when I can afford my own sport bike myself

I would personally like an inline 4, but unfortunately, we have only liter and above bikes in that category, which goes out of my budget, I wish Honda would have launched a brand new CB 400 or CBR 400RR. Unfortunately we do not have that option.

My constraints are:
Multi-cyl
INDIAN BILLING only. No imported vehicle
Brand new from the showroom.
Price tag - less than 5.5 to 5.75 Lacs - That's the MAXIMUM I can afford.
The only two options I see is the Kawasaki Ninja 250R and the Hyosung GT 650R. If you know any new upcoming vehicle in this segment and price tag, except the Ninja 650R - i dont like it (Not the zx 6R - I love that one) Kindly post more details here.

Now I know both are completely different, but here is what I am looking for:

1.) Daily use within the city+highway (As I ride to work over the highway)
2.) 1 long ride in two months.
3.) Mileage is not really an issue, but should not be ridiculously low, like below 12.
4.) Should be comfortable - I am used to a sporty riding style, but I have heard that the Hyosung gt 650R gives way too much vibrations. Also the pillion position in the gt 650 r is a little high, ( MY gf hates it :P) but it has a grab rail now. - In put on that ninja pillion riding position please.
5.) Practically usable in the city as well as the highway.
6.) Lights (Hyosung has a projector) - Wow
7.) External styling, Oh man I love the looks of the 650R.
8.) Reliability, the Ninja would gain higher points over this
9.) Built Quality, I think that's better in the ninja
10.) Service back up. Again Ninja (That's what I feel) Input please)
11.) Performance - Hyosung
12.) Handling - no clue haven't ridden the 650
13.) PRICE tag - this is where the ninja takes the cup, but by compromising the performance to 1/3rd
14.) Delivery period. The Hyosung guys aren't sure themselves. Ninja - people input please.
15.) Resale Value.
16.) Bike's response - Throttle response and Braking.
17.) Compatibility with Indian road conditions : My comet GT 250 fork oil seals had completely GONE in just 12000kms.
18.) Parts - Availability.

On the above points please comment . I am very confused. And this will be my bike for the next few years. Please suggest.

Go for the Ninja 250r. The GT650r hasn't taken a stand on the market as yet, so it's advisable to go for the Ninja. Besides, I didn't really understand points no. 11 and 16. Anyway, the Ninja is a good performer and handles like a dream. The Ninja is the world's best 250cc. The GT650R is only an alternative if your budgets tight. Your choice is final though. But if I had a choice, I wouldn't vacillate. I'd pick the Ninja.

Now I know both are completely different, but here is what I am looking for:

1.) Daily use within the city+highway (As I ride to work over the highway)250r has slightly poor low end, so it can be a bit troublesome in traffic.
2.) 1 long ride in two months. both will be good enough
3.) Mileage is not really an issue, but should not be ridiculously low, like below 12. definitely 250r will be better, but even the 650r will suffice
4.) Should be comfortable - I am used to a sporty riding style, but I have heard that the Hyosung gt 650R gives way too much vibrations. Also the pillion position in the gt 650 r is a little high, ( MY gf hates it :P) but it has a grab rail now. - In put on that ninja pillion riding position please.rider position is good enough for for long tour and will also help give you the thrill. its probably the best compromise between touring and supersport posture. the pillion seat is quite a climb. it isnt the most comfortable place to be. pillion rider between 5.4ft to 5.9ft will be provided with the best comfort levels. try ziss Motorcycle Ergonomics
5.) Practically usable in the city as well as the highway. practicality is what you make of it
6.) Lights (Hyosung has a projector) - Wow 250r is good enuf, but projectors will be quite superior right?
7.) External styling, Oh man I love the looks of the 650R. personal opinion.
8.) Reliability, the Ninja would gain higher points over this
9.) Built Quality, I think that's better in the ninja
10.) Service back up. Again Ninja (That's what I feel) Input please)hyosung garware is yet to prove itsself. better wait for it.
11.) Performance - Hyosung yup
12.) Handling - no clue haven't ridden the 650 cant comment either. but let me tell you the 250r is a good handler.
13.) PRICE tag - this is where the ninja takes the cup, but by compromising the performance to 1/3rd
14.) Delivery period. The Hyosung guys aren't sure themselves. Ninja - people input please.
15.) Resale Value. may be ninja becoz of brand value, bajaj backing, the GREEN colour(i actually thing its an asset .)mileage. hyosung is not that well known company in india but the comet 250 does ask quite a premium .
16.) Bike's response - Throttle response and Braking. 650r will be better i guess
17.) Compatibility with Indian road conditions : My comet GT 250 fork oil seals had completely GONE in just 12000kms.

so the bottom line is its a no brainer. Have the money, get the 650r. want a bit more VFM get the ninja. But as you already ride a gt 250, i think a 600cc will be a better buy. you could ready yourself for a future upgrade to litter bike. Buy the hyosung if you are to upgrade to a litter bike. Or wait for a better 600 if its the last bike youll buy.

Firstly, ZX6R is not so much on the radar, Ninja 650 surely is. Rajiv Bajaj himself said that a 650cc Ninja is being considered. And considering how long Bajaj took to launch the N250, you can forget ZX6R safely.

Other multicylinder bikes in line are Suzuki GW250, ST7 (out of budget+ a cruiser), etc.

I will tell you my comments based on magazine & internet (reliable) reviews:

3.) Mileage is not really an issue, but should not be ridiculously low, like below 12.

Both bikes will deliver good mileage. GT should give around 15..

But be aware that this is a V-Twin. It will deliver good torque, but don't expect it to run below 3000 rpm without snatching.
Although again, Ninja has lesser low end torque that a common street 250. Run in period will be real slow & tiring!

Long ride should be no problem. Both are sport machines, so think about it before using them in city. Might need lots of gear shifting.

GT vibrates above 6500-7000 rpm and sportier riding position. Ninja is smoother though. Ninja has more reasonable riding position. So, for comfort, Ninja might do the trick better.

5.) Practically usable in the city as well as the highway.

People have used Ninja 250 and one guy says in its 4krpm run in limit, that its low end torque is lesser. Prepared to do some gearshifting, but overall you can live with it.
Don't know about GT.

7.) External styling, Oh man I love the looks of the 650R.

Subjectively speaking, I agree GT looks better to me than N250.

Don't forget that the engine/ tyres are much bigger on GT.
Ninja on the other hand is good enough, but again, how fat a tyre can a 250 have?

8.) Reliability, the Ninja would gain higher points over this.

Only because, GT wasn't in our market so far. Who knows it might be reliable enough inside?

10). Service Backup:

Well, you can get Ninja serviced (now) in more places than GT. But again, GT are aiming for a Mobile Service option that could help you, at some serious expense though.

11.) Performance - Hyosung

Yes, GT for performance.

12.) Handling - no clue haven't ridden the 650

It has good handling if you trust reviews, its derived from some Suzuki's 650.

13.) PRICE tag - this is where the ninja takes the cup, but by compromising the performance to 1/3rd

Yes.

14.) Delivery period. The Hyosung guys aren't sure themselves. Ninja - people input please.
15.) Resale Value.

Talking percentiles of bike's cost, I think you'll get better value for N250.

Kawasaki's brand value matters, plus resale values are good for existing Ninja owners. I heard one was selling a N for some 2.1L.

16.) Bike's response - Throttle response and Braking.

Braking was critisized in a lot of places on GT. But, could have changed for 2010. Try getting more information on this.
Moreover, an EBC Brake pad would solve the issue if it still exists.
I finally suggest that you get a Ninja 250 and get some good aftermarket exhaust on it, preferably from Joel if he makes them, and it shall serve you good for both city and highway.
Remember that there's almost 50 kgs difference in the dry weight of both bikes. (154-204)

Thanks a lot. U covered up some points I had overlooked. I just rode a friends ninja right now. Its really slow ( very less torque) below 4k. Annoying as hell. I'm used to a 400.

Hyosung 250cc motorcycles to enter market next year
This will take upto one year. If you can wait it's worth it IMO.

I had a comet gt 250 which was exactly the same. I sold it for a 400, but soon I realized its not usable everyday, thus I want to buy a show room vehicle. Unfortunately there is no 400cc inline 4 in the Indian market. Really wish there was. Any ways, I am not keen on the GT250R. The GT650R is the next best option in my budget. If I would have the option of buying a 600rr or an R6 from the showroom for 6 lacs or less, I wouldnt have thought twice Any ways, Thanks. cheers

if vibration & braking is an issue with 650R,i would suggest you N250R but as per interviews of officials from garware motors they would provide world class service to their customers & if you can wait for some months then you will be more clear about your thoughts & make your choice more wisely
PS-I love the GT650R in white
