I was using a Scooty Pep+ for the past 5 yrs, now i'm looking for a second hand bike to run around for atleast a couple of yrs before i get my hands on those bullets
![]() I go on both short and long trips, so good fuel effeciency would be necessary. Simple comfort would be good, also comfort for the pillion rider is necessary! I found a 2006 Star City which had done 38k kms. The engine is in a good condition and almost everything was normal. The only negative is that i found that there was a sort of *cough* sound when i changed the gears, the mechanic said that it was because the chain was loose and he said that he would adjust it. The bike is priced at 16k and i would certainly bargain to bring it down! Would you suggest this ride? What are the pros and cons of this as i've seen both positive and negative reviews on many websites? Thanks! ![]() EDIT: i'm also considering a new HH CD Deluxe. Please refer to post no 5 on this thread and tell me what i can do

If it is a "couple of years" that you'd be using the bike and if you are looking at a used one, the HH Splendour would be a better choice. 16k is too much for a 38k used Star.
Depending on what those "couple of years" would be, you might look at a new bike. However, try borrowing a ride if possible to get a hang of the geared bikes before attempting to get a new one.

thanks for the replies mates!
@prince - my budget is 15k @Guru - Yeah mate, i tried to get a good bargain, but that guy didn't budge, i've dropped the idea of a Star City. Although i dont' have much exp in riding geared vehicles, i can sure ride them mate. so it won't be a problem migrating. Btw, i'm 21, 5'4" and weigh 80kg. i'm also considering the CD Deluxe because of the HH advantage and also i've read positive reviews about it. it costs around 44k on road in chennai and it seems to be a good bargain. I'm happy with a 100cc for now as i'm planning to get a bigger ride in a yr or two. What do you say guys? |

![]() Could you tell me more about the CDD please? Any user reviews and opinions will help. I'm going to take a test drive today and i guess i'll be able to make some sense out of it. Also, would it suit me for rides of around 40-50km? that is the max i would go, i wouldn't go further than that in one go. Would the CDD be good enough for such a ride? Also, comparing the RPMs of the splentdor and the CDD, i saw somewhere that the CDD is lower by around 2000. would that make a big difference in the ride? What factors get affected by RPM? btw, i heard from a local mech that the new splendor + engines are bad. i don't really trust him because he was the reason my pep+ went haywire. Any news about the new engines and their performance? |

CD Delux
7.8 PS @ 7500 rpm 8.04N-m @ 4500 rpm Splendor 7.5 PS @ 7500 rpm 7.95N-m @ 5000 rpm The LET of CD delux is slightly better than Splendor so it is a good bike to pull load on rough/uneven roads. That's the reason it's popular in rural areas. LET has many advantages like durable engine, good mileage..etc (slightly over Splendor). The RPM difference is not 2000 rpm, just 500. It must be ok to ride 50 kms at a stretch , however a 150cc would do the job better. But you can buy CD delux as you can sell it off any day if not satisfied and get back good re-sale value. |

I had a TVS Star City as well or rather my dad had.Exchanged it 2 years ago.It was 3 years old and had done 7000kms.It went for 20k.During that time when i had searched a 3 year old star city or which had done 16-18k Kms would cost ~18k max.
