Do you just want "any" bike that costs a shit load of money?

Or do you have specific 'kind' of a bike and a specific 'purpose' for the bike in mind.

The HD Super Low, Ninja 650R & Monster 796 all are very different bikes.

ha ha..my sentiments exactly.
to answer the thread begun...i think the most solid advic is define what u r looking for. Although all of us would like to own all of those monsters and beauties IMHO the first purchases should be made keepin in mind ur riding style riding needs need for speed and also very important the amount of money u r ready to spend on after market mods and upgardes etc.

i went saw the harleys and found that the g c of superlow is 100 which is way below my current ride Classic 500(140mm) and when i saw the iron i found there was just 20 mm difference from superlow. Now i was not sure if those 2 cms will save many potholes and bumps. now i have booked my superlow at banjara harley hyderabad and might get delivery on 24 june but my friends have already got it at delhi and let me underline this for u. They R extremely staisfied with the bike and do not complain of scraping which will give u sleepless nights. Yes it does scrape and yes u can prevent it by goin really slow over bumps taking it really easy but no its not an issue at least in city driving.

Now if i wanted a bike that races my pulse gives me those thrills of smoking the tarmac i would have opted for the ninja but i dont.
i want a cruiser on which i can put up my legs up balance a beer can on the tank and ride on for 200 kms at a stretch.

When it comes to the ducati monster 796...hell i do not want a cruiser i do not want a racer i want a ducati! maybe the next buy!!cross my fingers

one word abt the iron...the 2 cms of increased g c i dont think will do wonders ...yes if it was 140 ..at 120 i dunno. The major thing abt this bike...front heavy and less maneuverable and two..too small tank. so for me and my rides perhaps not an ideal piece. But man that matt black job is awsome!!

my predictions for u...u r gonna book the ninja!!!

Default i would love to have them both

praful, if i can afford it i would buy both iron 883 and kawasaki ninja 650r. i don't think just because one is a cruiser and other is a sportsbike it means you should ride, own or love only one kind of bike. i can have fun with both as i like both styles of riding. but since i am not vijay mallya's son i will have to do with just one of them and i need to choose carefully as i can't keep changing them time and again

Default finally, good news about superlow!

"but my friends have already got it at delhi and let me underline this for u. They R extremely staisfied with the bike and do not complain of scraping which will give u sleepless nights."

phaedrusarcher, you just gave me hope! Let me congratulate you for booking a superlow. Welcome to HD club! Let me add that your decision to book superlow over an iron 883 was a good one because even though it has lesser ground clearance, superlow has got better handling, bigger tank and softer suspension. suspension of iron 883 is known to be stiff and not so comfortable on bad roads.
hopefully i will join you shortly. I am just waiting for the ninja 650r price to be revealed now that the launch date has been confirmed as June 8th!
Actually i can afford both superlow and ninja 650r but not for the cost at which they sell in India!. In USA Ninja 650R costs 3.25 lakhs and superlow costs 3.15 lakhs. Now here in India they cost around 5.5 lakhs just because they are imported and not manufactured here. Now if you add the price of both Ninja 650r and superlow in USA, it comes around to 6.3 lakhs where as in India both together would cost 11 lakhs! so if they bikes are totally manufactured here, i could own both with my budget! I don't want to shell extra amounts for these bikes which goes into the kitty of the govt as tax. i want to get the bikes at a price for what they are really worth. i hope scenario changes in near future when harleys start complete production in India instead of importing their bikes as CBU or CKD units.

My guess is that they will price 650R aggressively, and it should be below 6 lacs; may be somewhere around the 5.5 lacs mark...

But then what should we (baby ninja owners) do? Sell our baby to buy the teen?

how i echo ur sentiments so.
It really hurts to pay double for those bikes than in USA and then wait for delivery settle for lesser service and pay a load in aftermarket parts too. Plus wait for all those fun activities that they ve there. The state of roads too wud be another place where it hurts.
nevertheless there are other advantages of being in India
hey i dont think prices are gonna come down this year for CKD models superlow n iron but they will def not go up. check this out...CKD taxes are hiked shud ve led to in fact a higher cost for superlow but the HD guys kept it down despite the tax raise.Harley Davidson: Will not hike prices of CKD bikes in India - Economic Times
so like u n everyone i was praying that they start manufacturing but i have this from reliable sources inside harley india that at least for next year and half there is no way harley will manufacture in india.
so i went ahead n booked it!!!

Nice chrome parts, excellent paint quality, comforatable riding position, typical harley engine sound etc. But i am a bit wary of the 883 superlow. its ground clearance is only 100mm. if you take typically indians bikes which have been designed for indian roads like pulsar, enfield etc they have minimum ground clearance of 150mm. you don't want to splurge 7 lakhs on a bike and want to scratch your precious harley on literally every speed breaker in sight. the xl 883 roadster is a better option with 140mm ground clearance but it costs 2 lakhs more than the superlow.
I myself was in a dilemma but now finally decided to wait for bajaj kawasaki ninja 650r as it is going to cost similar to harley superlow but it has a ground clearance of 145mm which should make it riding on indian roads much more fun than a hd superlow. if i was riding the superlow i constantly have to be looking out for speed breakers, potholes and slowing down always which will take the fun out of riding such an expensive bike. if there are any harley superlow users in xbhp community who can provide their inputs on their riding experience and ground clearance issues, it will be appreciated as i can decide whether i should go for ninja 650r or hd 883 superlow
I have booked my self a SuperLow… Should be arriving in Sept… Yes the ground clearance is an issue… but here is a solution I found after some serious research… Most of the sportster suspensions are inter changeable so what I am going to do is replace the existing suspension with the 883R suspension. That would give me a height of about 125mm with one astride and on medium settings… Thus I get the sexy looks of the SL, with its big tank and at the same time great ground clearance… Best of both worlds… also not to mention, but it fits into your 7L bracket… The rear suspension should cost you about 15K and the front coils about 8K… Hope you book your bike soon… Lets ride!!!
