i have a fixed budget of 7 lakhs for splurging on a bike and i don't want to cross my budget. i loved the harley davidson superlow when i visited the tusker harley showroom in bangalore. Nice chrome parts, excellent paint quality, comforatable riding position, typical harley engine sound etc. But i am a bit wary of the 883 superlow. its ground clearance is only 100mm. if you take typically indians bikes which have been designed for indian roads like pulsar, enfield etc they have minimum ground clearance of 150mm. you don't want to splurge 7 lakhs on a bike and want to scratch your precious harley on literally every speed breaker in sight. the xl 883 roadster is a better option with 140mm ground clearance but it costs 2 lakhs more than the superlow.
I myself was in a dilemma but now finally decided to wait for bajaj kawasaki ninja 650r as it is going to cost similar to harley superlow but it has a ground clearance of 145mm which should make it riding on indian roads much more fun than a hd superlow. if i was riding the superlow i constantly have to be looking out for speed breakers, potholes and slowing down always which will take the fun out of riding such an expensive bike. if there are any harley superlow users in xbhp community who can provide their inputs on their riding experience and ground clearance issues, it will be appreciated as i can decide whether i should go for ninja 650r or hd 883 superlow |

My world changed from smoke & 2T to ECM & 4 joke!!

Both are two different segments in motorcycling. Define your requirements right & you can very easily choose one over the other.

Actually i loved the harley superlow but because of the ground clearance problem, i am gravitating towards ninja 650r as both are in the same price range. I was wondering if there are people using superlow in India, how they are dealing with speed breakers and potholes

Just remember.. even a Ninja 250 can quite smoke a 883.. as a friend told me on one of his rides... true the Harley is not designed to be ridden hard.. but just a tid bit..

Get in touch with srisetty. He owns a HD Iron 883 in Bangalore. He should be able to help you with your queries regarding ground clearance.

hmm i'll look into a ducati monster. Coming to iron 883 its got better ground clearance than superlow i.e., 120mm. but its a rip off buying these harley bikes in India. Iron 883 costs 3.6 lakhs in the USA where as in India we have to pay 6.5 lakhs even though its being assembled in India and bought via the ckd route. so still Indians have to pay 80% tax to the indian govt on the harley. if it was completly imported and bought via CBU route it would have costed 7.2 lakhs as there is 100% duty on that. I don't find much difference in the cost whether the bike is imported or assembled in India via CKD. Maybe i'll wait for harley to start their production in India which will bring down the cost of harleys significantly.

So its finally coming! Guys i just visited the bajaj ninja 250r website and it says 16 days to go for the bigger bike to be launched. So its official. Ninja 650R is going to be launched on June 8th! Now the only suspense is the pricing. If they can keep it under 5.5, i'll book it straight away
