Default Fazer (low milage issue) any better alternative?

Dear Fazer owners,

Please please ... help me ... I am at the verge of buying the fazer.. but more I read more I get confused. every one says the mileage of fazer/fz16 is way less ... like 30-35 Km ... that's quite unacceptable for the bike with this less power output...

Is it because of the wider rear tyre ... would changing them solve the problem ? any other minor tweaks (not the engine mod) will increase the mileage.
what's the maximum Mileage have you got?

I considered ZMR previously ... but ruled out because of no leg-guard. Same reason R15 was ruled out too.

I m pretty relaxed rider. I don't ride at very high-speed, what I wanted was a good city handling, good looks, safe on highway and moderate mileage.

Is there any other bike which would suit this ? please help me ...

What about new Karizma-R? You can remove the guard and fix a Crash guard.

i have benn saying this time and again on xbhp, the mileage issue on the fz's not sparse,3 of my frnd's own fz 16's,all 3 have mileage problems, and none of them even thrash the bike... i kept the one of the bike for a week and tried every fiddling in the book, but still couldn't beat 35kmpl.and for a 150,that is not acceptable.
and abt the Tyre, that is what makes the fz,one of the main characteristics of the bike.and to go for a smaller one you have to change the rear rim as well, then the handling goes out the window and so on....
may i suggest some thing like the dazzler,
same power, similar features, but you get an extra disk at the back,
mileage in the higher 45's, honda's creamy engine will last a last a life time.the gs-150r looses on the rear disk, but will give you a 6th gear, good for mileage and cheaper than the above 2.
all of them have crash guards and are jap's,hence will work like a charm.

You took the decision just based on no leg guard ? NICE...

I have only one sentence for you. No i have 3, 1) You are doing it wrong. 2) I own R15 and FZ, R15 delivers a constant average of 43+ KMPL and FZ 52+ KMPL. 3) Both bikes are 2 + year old and R15 has clocked 60K ODO.

No mate, FZ will atleast give you 45KMPL average, even if you are thrash the bike with high speeds. Also one more thing, regular servicing is the key to mileage . Keep her happy, she will return the same favor to you.

I own a Fazer.

After 9+ months, almost 60 kms every day and 12000+ kms, my NightFury gives me a minimum mileage of 40+/- 2 kmpl easily.

The route to my office includes almost 12kms of a highway stretch, where I'm always doing 95+ and for the rest of the route it keeps varying between 40-80 (depending on traffic).. but majorly I like to ride at high speeds.. My gear shifting pattern is 5K at normal mode and at thrash mode at 6k+ rpm.

I think my riding style stretches the bike to its limits.. and yet, the mileage hasn't dropped so far..

I have tried riding it on Splendor mode(speeds <=70) for a while to see if it creates a difference in the mileage and it sure gave me around 45-48 kmpl.

I would strongly recommend it for you as your riding style seems to be more relaxed than mine, and hence, you should get even better figures.

There are a whole range of performance mods available for the bike starting from FFE to big bore kit (180cc), developed by our own Joel anna and sold under the brand of Race concepts (:.Welcome To Race Concepts.:) at a modest price. These mods not only increase power but also the mileage for upto 10-15%. So you can look for those too.

@rockgrid
First of all.Even the FAZER does not have a leg guard. You can fix one but then i believe you can do that for the KARIZMA too?

Anyway, its true that the FZ series returns poor mileage compared to its competitions but if the carb's tuning levels are moderate and the bike is properly serviced(proper tire pressure too) then with a decent style of riding you can get around 42kmpl.
With a slightly richer mix and total trashing my FZ returns around 33kmpl.

Anyway..if you are really concerned about mileage...forget the FZ series.Go for a DAZZLER/XTREME or something...or better get the KARIZMA...lack of leg guard isn't all that a big issue and i guess you can fit one anyway.

+1^^

CBZ-Xtreme's crash guard is a direct fit for karizma.
