Post help me from not buying a car OWNing a BIKE !!

Hi fellows,

As title is self-explanatory, my family want me to buy a car so that i can commute to office easily but i'm unable to convince them till now that I've never had a bike ( except for one, my uncles splendor which they left unused after getting their car ) .... So before getting into that comfort zone of car, I want to own a experience OR want to own a bike first.

I'm 25 working in Gurgaon and living in Ghaziabad. so commuting is a daily affair for me (rite now it's office cab acting as a life saver). I can shell-out some where around 70k to 90k but want a bike which give me enough comfort for 80+km on return ride, good for city traffic and occassionaly if i want to go to chandigarh, agra, jaipur etc then instead of just travelling, I should be able to enjoy the ride. Therefore, I want a bike which eases itself from city traffic as well as a good tourer also.
My personal favourite is Fazer but want the help of whole bikers community experience to help me choose a bike as there is so much competiotion in this section that everyday I get confused whether i'm making a right choice or not by not choosing Apache RTR 180 OR Karizma OR Pulsar 180/220 .

Please don't take me wrong but since it would be my first and probably last bike, I even considered RE Thunderbird and Yamaha R15 ( as for it i just have to make a few adjustments in my budget)

Please advise me soon as pressure for car is creeping like anything

Regards -
Rahul

wait foe a couple of months and get the new R15.... they have improved on the design factor and in the pics which are floating over the internet the bike looks killer....

otherwise Karizma ZMR will be your best bet....
The bike is great in city traffic also it can crusie easily at 100+ speeds....

my third option will be the Fazer. gr8 looks. average not that good. no vibrations in the bike uptill speeds of 90-95kmph.... can cruise easily at 90kmph....

Fazer is a good bike and there is no doubt in that.. good for touring.. As this will be your only bike I would suggest to go for Fazer or Karizma (R or ZMR), though ZMR goes a bit out of your budget..

if comfort is your primary criteria, DO NOT go for any bike which has sporty riding position and you have to crouch, otherwise, it will make your life miserable, because you are not used to riding bikes that often.

other thing is bike set up and suspension.

so, keeping the above two things in mind i.e. riding position and suspension, to make your ridiing as comfortable as possible--
  • stay away from R15's, pulsar's, apache's and likes.
  • Bajaj "Avenger" and Hero Honda "Karizma ZMA/ZMR/R" are the most comfortable ones. you should test ride both and purchase the one that suits you.

mate i have done kaushambi-gurgaon for 2 months everyday ( working on a bike project in kaushambi ), and let me tell u this much. Keep 2-2.5 hours aside for commuting, and its gonna be back breaking to say the least. Buy a Nano and be happy with the comfort. Else first try some bike for a few days ( maybe a friend's ), and see how you feel and last.

I agree on the comfort part, should be a fazer, dazzler or any other 150-250cc with a comfortable riding position.

Lots of bikes and lots of minds ........... (no offence)

my suggestion is 1). A bike with less power would be of no use as a tourer.
2). A bike too heavy would be dificult for city ride and that too in the traffic of delhi.

so considering the points above karizma and pulsar220 are heavy bikes (depends on your physical structure and riding habits).

bikes below 150 are a waste as a tourer.(except pulsar135ls).

so my suggestion 1). For more city rideing and less touring- fz16 or pulsar135 as they are light, and powerful enough for occassional touring.

2).If you are giving touring a serious consideration then you have only two serious contendors and they are pulsar220 and karizma. Again many would like to place pulsar220 in a discomfort place but I had no problem in touring on P220.

so the choice is your's. Hang out with people and get test rides on these bikes and choose the one that fits your needs.

Good Luck

i would say wait out for a few months... new launches are coming in soon.. looking at the sneak peek the new R15 looks promising and yes people have done serious touring without back aches.. plus you always will have an option of getting more power with reliability and awesome FE in future thanks to joel anna (:.Welcome To Race Concepts.:)

if you are impatient and eager to get a new bike asap then karizma is a good option. Regarding Yamaha Fazer: you can check out my previous post Yamaha FZ-16

cheers

If comfort is your top priority then you need a better riding stance than the r15, so i suggest you p220/a180/re-thunderbird(isnt that out of your budget?)..
If you can afford thunderbird then keep it as top priority, second one goes to a180(if very very good for inside city riding) or p220(its a grand tourer)
if you want something more on the touring side with extra style try zmr
