Default Motorbike for Occassional Use Only

Dear Xbhpians,
Myself a NRI (Native - Tamilnadu) and have a chance to ride motorcycles in India during my visits only. At present I drive my relatives vehicle (splendor/TVS/Baja Platina) during my visits. Am longing to buy a motorbike to go to trips during my visits.
The following are the requirements..

1.May be less in Maintenance.
2.Powerful enough (RE Classic / Standard UCE / Karizma R like)
3.Best Tourer (with a pillion)
4.Should have good service network (Should not be like P220, that it can be serviced only in Bajaj PBK centres)
5.Mileage and cost of the bike is not a major concern, but comfort and easy to ride is required.
6. Since I will be using the bike, only during my vacations, what you would suggest for this. I may ask my brother/friends to take and go for some random rides, so that the bike will not be idle for long times, like 4-6 months.
7.What precaution shall be done to protect the bike during such long idle period.

May I sought assistance/advise from you for your valuable comments

Thanks
Venkat

The Karizma (ZMA-R) fits your requirements perfectly well.

1. Less Maintenance.
2. Powerful enough
3. A good tourer
4. Has good service network
5. Comfortable and easy to ride
6. Since you will be using the bike, only during vacations, investing in something more expensive might be useless.

^^+1..
Zma-r or Zmr could be better choice...Because while considering pillion comfort, these rides are best..

Thanks for all of your suggestion.
Can someone put some flashlight on the maintenance to be done, while keeping the bike for such long idle period.

hello Venkat, I'm a 220 owner myself who was willing to buy ZMA but did not because

1. No rear disc,
2. No 55w lights,
3. No projector
4. No clip-ons(though normal handles are better for touring)
5. Very poor mileage compared to 220.
6. Over-priced spare parts which are also less available
7. Over-tough fairing fiber because of which most Kaizma owner complain of Fairing issues.
8. No oil-cooler (extremely required for long highway rides)

In reference to your queries:

1. There are some wrong notions people have. Many had previously scared me by telling me P220 needs a lot of maintainance, but now that I'm using it, i can assure you, if you use it properly and sanely, you will have almost Zero maintainance, trust me on this. Until now, I only had to undergo Engine oil change, Air-filter cleaning and Chain cleaning. I guess all bikes need that.

2. Trust me, P220 is a very powerful bike.

3. I have done quite a few trips and on many bikes, P220 is currently the best Indian sports-tourer and A220 (Avenger220) is the best cruiser IMO. The engine just never feels tired and has great high speed cruising capabilities.

4. Now it has been officially announced, all bajaj authorized dealers well sell and service P220s and A220s.

5. Now you know when it comes to bajaj, where price stands. and mileage, trust me, you can easily score 40 in city and more on highways with sane riding. I mean check the 220 thread if you don't believe me.

6. It's your decision so no comments.

7. Well, there are quite a few, idling the engine is the major one for any bike you choose.

Conclusion:

If you want a sports cruiser: Pulsar 220 semi-faired is the best option,
If you want a pure cruiser: Avenger 220 is the best option.

PS: Please test ride all the bikes available in your budget and then decide. And I'm a no big bajaj fan or partial. My post is completely my own opinion and un-biased.
