  • New bike to Buy in the Sport Category

    Hey Guys,

I am new to this Bike Category and recently I have grown passion for Sports Bikes. Believe it or not I am turning 25 and I do not know how to drive a Motorcycle and I am learning to drive on a R15 and its coming out Good. Once i get my license. I am planning to a Bike in the 250 CC Probably CBR 250.

CBR 250 as i have gone through many reviews have got the max points.

Should I wait for more bikes to come out??
I do not want to go above 1.75 L as it will be my first bike.

    Guys help me out here

Cheers and welcome me to the Bike Community.

wow! not everybody in india get R15 as a learner's bike. lucky guy.

Anyway, You get no option other than CBR250 within 1.75lacs. And with ABS it is one the safest bike here leaving Apache. But if you are in no hurry and enjoying riding R15, Yam's gonna launch R15 ABS in the Q1 of 2012.

Patience pays; friend of mine & fellow xBhpian waited over 5 years to realize his dream on Hayabusa. His patience surprises me.

Another fellow xBhpian waited several years, several years to realize his childhood dream on Yamaha R1. His patience blows my mind.

What was your question, again ?

Even I am learning on an R15, it's a great learner bike, i've not tried the CBR as yet, I'm sure it's a great bike, but not sure of it being a massive leap forward, especially as Joel can do wonders for the R15. Not much else in the price segment, Ninja is the undisputed (globally) king of the 250cc segment. Hero cycles make a couple of 220cc bikes and of course there's the Pulsar, not sure if these would classify as an upgrade though. As suggested earlier by others, wait (no idea how long) to see if the market in India improves and there is some real competition, don't hold you breath though.
Beware of Bread, don't say I didn't warn you!
More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !

Welcome to xbhp bro, Pretty impressed with the feet you're trying to achieve, glad the bike bug bit you. I know what everyone felt including myself is the urge to get the best out there and be blown away. I'm not gonna ask you to wait for a better bike or a different bike in the market.

But I would rather ask you to enjoy riding something decent first before moving into a premium 250cc segment. Because, from what I've learned anything from minor falls to some less fortunate situations arise during the learning process. Its best not to invest so much for a year or two, get an FZ16 both you and your friends will enjoy the company of another Yamaha. Its got great handling and decent performance.

                      1. Full faired bikes cost a lot to repair in case of a fall.
                      2. Learners excitement and high speed bikes are a risky combination.

These are just my suggestions, you could bypass this and get a CBR 250 and ride safe, if you are confident. Its a great bike, not even the new R 15 is gonna beat that and kawasaki ninja costs more than your range of 2 lakhs.
Been obsessed with momentum ever since i was born, but 0 - 200kmph took 30yrs! This will do for now!

ha..ha sorry for my mistake of not talking biker language in xbhp. Agreed aargee!

Let me put it this way, don't buy something very special during learning process as it would hurt more emotionally and financially, if luck were to be unfavorable. Find or buy something you could fiddle with and enjoy while learning before shifting to something more responsible.

                          cheers

Well im learning too.although i didnt take any classes, just bought the CBR 250R and started riding.
I cant afford to buy a learning bike & then the CBR.i dont have the patience either.
Only thing to take care of, is to ride responsibly & know your limits.
Confidence is the key.i have gone upto 120km/hr but only when the situation was right.
High speed is especially dangerous for new riders,& even more dangerous is the zeal to feel the rush of speed.
                            Be confident,careful & responsible & go ahead with CBR.its a nice bike.

                            cheers.
Happiness comes from the Journey; not the Destination.

Thanks Brother. Appreciate it a lot and everything u said makes sense. Even I have been thinking about getting a very low cost motorcycle not FZ though cuz i want to move to CBR 250R pretty fast. Not telling this in excitement but cuz of sheer passion towards bikes these days.

So im gonna look in to something very cheap so i can have the feel in the traffic and on the road in these busy ridden world. I know there will be excitement if i get a new one. SO gonna try to maintain as much as calm and a very low atrocity . BTW i read your Owner's Bike column. Pretty impressive and Congrats.
