Hi all, my first post and thread here on xbhp
I currently own a TVS Victor GL bought in Apr 2004 and even now, it's giving a mileage of 48-49 kmpl Still, I've decided to dispose off the Victor and go for a new bike on my b'day next month and am hell confused on which to choose in the 150cc segment Just some information about me:Height - 6'2" Weight - 71 kgs Married (so quite a few rides would be with a pillion rider) I've checked out Yamaha FZ16, SZ-R, Honda Dazzler and also read about CBZ Xtreme, Hunk, Pulsar 150 and Apache RTR 160. In fact, I've been reading a lot of reviews on the net and frankly, they're confusing me even more ![]() Few things that I'm a bit skeptical about the mentioned bikes (as read in reviews), FZ16's mileage and lack of pillion comfort, SZ-R's all analogue console and non-tubeless tyres, Dazzler's okay looks and poor build quality, vibrations in Apache RTR and Pulsar. I know every bike will have some pros and some cons but it would be better if someone could really help me in taking an informed decision. Looks matter to me along with pillion comfort. Decent mileage would surely be a bonus but since these are 150 cc bikes, not a must. But yes, riding and handling should be good enough, both in city and highways. Hope to get some good responses

Hi,
Considering you are focusing on FE and pillion comfort, Dazzler would be a good choice. Next would be Pulsar. RTR is an all-rounder, but beware of those vibrations you mentioned about. If you do not like engine vibes, forget RTR. I would say: Dazzler > Pulsar > CBZ > RTR |

Believe me, If you wanna go for a bike, just blindly go for a bike whichever you like,
Internet will confuse you and suggestions will kill your attire for buying a new bike, You have been a TVS customer and you are happy with the mileage, this sounds that you are looking for a bike with good mileage in the 150 segment,,,, The best mileage bikes in 150cc segments are lined up as follows : Boxer (its the New Boxer) Discover Aspire (yes this is a 150cc bike) Unicorn Dazzler GS Pulsar RTR HUNK CBZ FZ R15......................................... If you do not want looks blindly go for Boxer or Aspire else Unicorn or GS would be the best,,,,,,,, Discover and Pulsar Comes next and Others are Least for your case..........because others are purely racing based.

Pulsar and Apache were a NO because of the Pulsar having engine life issues and many recommending against it and TVS having poor after sale service quality. they just change oil and said service is done!! So it was Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha then. Suzuki 150GS was good but completely out of my budget (I could only spend 70k onroad.) Hero Honda bikes were costlier than others, seems like they charge a premium for everything including spares which are costly and very rarely you get the parts , all the time its not available! Mileage was at par with others like Honda or Yamaha which has a very robust engine and can take a lot of abuse. Also the parts are not very expensive. Then why don't I go for the better build quality Honda/Yamaha instead of buying a CBZ? In Honda it was either Unicorn or Dazzler, if I did have that extra money I would choose my bike to be the unicorn. I felt the Dazzler's initial pull (torque) was very less when i tested it, at higher power curve the dazzler was superb but this ment initial pickup is less which means you need to get down to lower gears when you slow down and i really don't feel its much pain except in city stop and go constant clutch use will be irritating and eats your mileage.. I spoke to a customer who had come for service and he said he gets 40-45kmpl in city with such gear changes which was decent enough and highway he got 58kmpl. Later I tested the Yamaha FZ16 which was great but costly, the thick tyres at back had frequent puncture issues and the pillion seats were not good for anyone to sit for long and I felt I had to settle for a Honda Dazzler(125cc). Then I saw the SZR parked there, it had such a good response on the low torque engine which was same as FZ16 but detuned for more mileage, I could move the bike over humps even on third gear and didn't have to shift down, but the question was of short highway rides(70km up and down) I commute to college everyday. Got to know the bike is heavier than I first thought and the disc brakes were same as provided on Pulsar (Bieber), the suspension was good too so commuting on highway was not issue except that the bike did not have Pass beam switch and TVS tube tyres! But surprisingly the bike was within my budget too (67k onroad). I decided that the cost I saved on buying the bike against the others which was atleast 10k more, I can get a new set of tubeless tyres, and loosing few kmpl less mileage for better pickup was not bad too considering i saved money in buying the bike. Currently I am getting 44kmpl in city and 52kmpl on highway on my Yamaha SZR. I have no troubles with the TVS tyres, its good but yes I do think a MRF Zapper tubeless would let me push the bike to its limits by giving a little more road grip at cost of few kmpl mileage. Thinking of changing stock tyres after 5000km. So I suggest you to go for the Unicorn/Dazzler as first preference or the Yamaha SZ-R. Last edited by prajnyan; 11-24-2011 at 01:46 AM. |
