Default M795 or M796?

I know some of you will say that this is an obvious choice given certain variables. So, hear me out first.

Thanks in advance for bearing with me.

So, I would go for 795 hands down (cheaper by 3 lacs). But, if I had to, I could twist my budget to pay the extra 7-8 K EMI.

Pluses for 795:
  • Cheaper by 300,000.
  • Still a Ducati
  • Awesome looks

Minuses for 795:
  • Not made in Italy - does this make a difference, you think?
  • Not as cool looking (personally the single swing arm in the 796 looks beautiful).
  • Doesn't have ABS, DTC, etc. - I plan to ride it mostly in the city, with possible highway trips a few times a year. Do I need these?
  • Only one color red - I don't like it when I don't have options. I love the black 796.
  • Very new bike - don't know what glitches it will have.

So, dear xBHP, help me decide.
One more positive of 795 is that the delivery is in late march/early april (as per contact in Ducati Mumbai showroom) - hopefully in this time, there will be a showroom and service center open in Delhi (I am based in Gurgaon).

I guess I need help on whether the extra 300,000 is worth it (considering everything - I heard that 796 will be phased out, is it true? how does that effect my buying decision?)

Why only Ducati?
I love the looks - if there are any overwhelming reason why I shouldn't but the Ducati, let me know. Don't quote Triumph, because I really want a bike in the next 2 months or so.

Other topics I need help in:
  • Search as I may, I can't find how much it will cost me to finance the bike.
  • They say that for servicing someone will travel from Mumbai. Does anyone have experience with this? Any Ducati owners in NCR?? Is this even practical? Don't they need a workshop, tools, etc.?
  • Is there good resale on these things?

I think this is a good start. Thanks again for your help.

I'd check up on the Ducati dealers first if I was you. Some very unpleasant stories floating around this forum.

What I have found out is that there is only one dealer in India (in Mumbai) and they have plans to open a dealership in Delhi in the next couple of months.

Is there anyone here who has purchased a Monster in the last one month?

My 2 cents
1] the DP for 795 was approx 2.1L, around 30% of the OTR price.
2] the 795 looks more like the older 696, than the 796
3] resale value won't be too good I suppose. Think about it, in a couple of years there will be so many big bikes on the road in India (HD, Hyosung, the Jap 4, Triumph soon, etc....)
I am going to Mumbai soon to finally make my own decision, whether to wait for Triumph or not?
Even I am without a ride right now, so can't wait longer without a decision.

m796 looks lucrative to me,if i had the money i would have rather not considered m795.i would suggest you look out for other options in that price bracket.

Default M795 ... A nightmare

HI Guys, this is for all those who have booked the Ducati M795. I booked mine in Jan and was promised del in end March. later in march they promised April 1st Week and in April they have said May. Till date they do not have a clue as to when the dels will be given. i spoke to the sales staff and he had no clue abt the dels too. so i went in for a cancellation as it does not make any sense in getting the bike after mid may as i would not be riding in the rains. Initially i was told that the refund wont be possible as its in their contract. but after pulling a few strings i managed to convince them for a refund. i have received mails from Ducati saying they have accepted my cancellation and refund will be transferred soon. i wanted to share this with the others who are being troubled by them. According to my talks with them since the past 4 months i assume they cannot start the dels before August. Thats all the info i can share. all the best to the others who have booked the bike.

Cheers
