Default Help me choose a Cruiser bike.

hello thumpers,
i have alwys been fascinated by bullet 350.. and its kinda my dream bike..
i feel its the best cruiser bike in India.. but after speaking with a few guys i feel its perhaps not the best bike for long rides..

I want to buy a bike within next 3-4 months... my budget is max 1 lakh..
Follwing are the expectations from my dream bike..

1. the bike shd be able to endure long rides.. i mean rides to ladhakh or rides in himalayas etc.
2. the bike shd have a very comfortable seating position, handling and breakes..
3. minimum mileage of 30 km per litre.
4. it shd feel like an ultimate cruising machine.

I have follwing idea in my mind.
I will get a second hand bullet 350 preferably 1980-90 model.. with originial CI engine. and do the following modifications.
1. Cruiser bike type seats, handle etc.
2. Front and rear disk breaks..( if it is advisable to do so)
3. gas filled shock absorbers.
if u guys like this idea and feel that this idea will meet my expecations.. plz tell me.. and also suggest some more modifications in the bike which will be within that budget..

thumpers plz help.. and share ur knowledge..

Hi,

Even i was planning on same lines, went through some bike modifiers to get ultimate curiser look. Cost where in line to 1.5 to 2L (again its totally upon what kind of modifications you are looking for.

You can look dreamriders.co.in <== i dont have any personal experince with them, just found there website and enquired.

My idea was to get engine from 1995 - 2003/4 model and if possible the latest UCE, not very sure this came come true..but just keeping my options open. Have not decided upon how and when to put efforts on this, but its very open option to move ahead.

Lets keep in touch with for benefit of both.

Other option that I have in mind to go for 200cc oil cooled Avenger. i am expecting 220cc DTS-FI Avenger. Let see. Its has many pros over the custom crusier, but Custom Cruiser is Custom Curiser. Period

Others would you kindly share your views on Avenger also?

Viny

hi viny...
i m so confused about bullets.. ppl say it requires a lot of maintenace.. and are not very reliable..
but i love the sound and feel of bullets..
Man about avenger 180.. i have a satisfactory opinion..
its a good bike.. very comfortable to ride.. but again its not well refined..
as all other bajaj bikes..
but i have heard the 200 one is amazing..
but bullets are bullets.. i mean u feel like a MAN if u r riding a bullet..
wat say??

@the_bullet,

Few things that i pondered on while the idea of custom crusier was in my mind

1. Issues associated with an wear and tear of Old engine and its niggles.
2. Using an engine (model of 80's) that has outdated technology and tons of issues.
3. A custom built is not a perfect machine, unlike the factory built ones, which are gone through various test and configurations to come up with optimum settings of every component, the custom builts are more of kind of juggads. It works great till the juggad is working, otherwise you have to comeup with next juggad.
4. General motors parts are always available for factory built products. Its not same for custom built ones. Simple things like brake wire or lever for custom built would not be found on plain roads, and if you plan to take it to long trips there are lot of niggles to planned.

I would say, A bullet is bullet, till you keep it as a bullet

hey viny..
i dont wish to completely change the basic structure of the bullet.
i ll only change the handle.
about the breakes and gear i ll just extend them a bit towards the front tyre... which ll make the bike more comfortable..
i ll change the old shockabsorbers with the new gas filled ones..
and i ll change the front and rear brakes with disc brakes..
and also an elctrict start for the bike... tats about it..
wud all these changes work with old bullet 350 engine?
wud these chages give me ultimate biking and thumping experience??

Lightbulb

go for the TBTS or any other enfield they have the best seating position you will ever find in India.they have a few problems. but its all worth it for the feel of riding a bulled is un-comparable.and if u choose twinspark then you can expect 35kmph-40kmph or depending on your riding style maybe even more but will nwver drop below 30. and as you said it makes one look manly.!!
