As the title says, I am looking for a bike for the weekend rides. I am looking for a used bike, so that I pay less.
Here are the criterion: 1. Budget = 15K (+5k for any repairs/accessories) 2. The regulars from the hyderabad xbhp ride R15s, ZMAs, P200s, RTRs. My bike(Suzuki Zeus) cannot keep up with these bikes which normally do around 80kmph to 100kmph and occasionally 120kmph. So to keep up with these the intended bike should have good top speed and decent pick-up. 3. For the budget, initially I was thing of a RX135 with 5-speed. But now I am more inclined towards Yezdi RoadKing(may be '95 or '96 make). 4. Expected FE figures 30 to 35kmpl. 5. Reliable and easy availability of spares. I think of the both the yezdi fits the bill. But I need the opinion of the guys who ride the Yezdi. Can the bike run at good speeds. The weekend rides which I would like to are 300 to 450 km up and down in a single day and with breaks, the total time is around 8 hours. Now with the Yezdi Roadking there are some issues: 1. The breaks, I heard they are pathetic. Can anything be done in this area. how about putting in a disk break or may be a brake kit from the jawa 350. 2. The lights, can these be upgraded as well?? 3. My height is 6' 2", so I dont think I need to change the seating position or the handle. But I would like to know if I change the handle to reduce the CG, will it effect the handling(I would be able to decrease the coefficient of drag by reducing the CG). 4. Since the bike is no longer in production, will I have to stock the spares? I would like to use this bike as weekend bike for the next two years. Also the following mods I would like to do: 1. Aerodynamics, make a front half fairing to cover the headlight and the dials, something like the cafe racer: ![]() ok may not be that high funda, i dont mind something which is basic and simple and more importantly functional for me function preceded form. 2. Weight Reduction, while keeping the cafe racer theme in mind, I would also like to reduce the weight. Not much of elaborate mods just to reduce the weight. If I can get suitable replacement for the headlight and dials with lower weight. I would also look into that. 3. Top Speed, I read somewhere in one of the yezdi threads that changing the stock 16" wheels to 18" wheels, the top speed is increased to 135kmph with suitable sprocketing. BTW, what would be the effect on the engine and FE with such mods. I dont want to mess with the internals other than the sprocket(provided thats safe) Any other things should I look into?? or shall I reconsider RX135 or any other bike?? Thats it for now, If I come up with more doubts, I shall post them here. |

ahem... Raj... what are you upto... BTW, good plan. All the best.
But then, some of the questions you asked are like you are getting a new bike and are looking at minor mods... I guess it is hard to get a Yezdi without mods / tweaks / adjustments at your budget.

Will u not get a second hand bull in the range or if u stretch it a bit? I guess that makes a lot more sense than a Yezdi. One of our Chennai xBhpinas has a Yezdi and he says that finding spares is tough. Even tougher is finding mechs to fix it. So ur call mate!

May be I shall start stocking up few spares(I know of few guys who source used parts from scrap yard but the problem might come while looking up for old new parts, for which I may require some help from KA folks) A trick I learned from the reviews is that look out for a yezdi which is running in a good condition and talk to the owner, where he gets it serviced. For me I need not look out much, one of our neighbors has one for more than 8 years now and he still takes it out once in a month or so. It starts in second or third kick. The bike is in a good condition. I just realised to talk to him while typing this post. raj. |

On an another note, how about initial Pulsar 180?
Will I get a pulsar 180 in my budget of 15K? What are the common problems of the pulsar 180s which came initially? As far as I know, the exhaust gets rusted. The engine and gear box are not as smooth as my zeus. Ofcourse, I am not sure the smoothness of a Yezdi as well. Please add some inputs. raj. |

a well maintained Yezdi flows like cream on the roads at the ton mark and begs for more...
BTW, how about the exchange scheme of zeBuSA with GS 150? That would serve all your needs.

1. price: exchange price of Zeus = 20k OTR of GS150R ~ = 70k So I will be paying out 50K in the deal. I might be saving a little bit on the fuel though comparing it with a Yezdi. Looking at the trips I intend to do, thats around 500 km a month. It will translate to 7 liters(FE of yezdi @ 30 and GS @ 50) of additional petrol if I go for a yedi, thats 300/- (plus 100/- for oil) p.m. extra if I buy Yezdi. But I will be loosing money on fuel in the daily ride to office if I take the GS150R instead of zeus. I will be doing 800km p.m on my bike as daily commute. It will translate to around 150/-. On the whole i tend to loose only 250/- p.m if I go for yezdi instead of GS150R and I save 30,000/-(lets say i pay 20k for the yezdi including any repairs and spares stock) plus the interest on 50,000/-. Thats a huge one buddy. Yeah! i might sound a bit stingy, but my mind doesnt agree with a new bike. 2. Also the GS150R, I doubt would do the top speeds the way the Yezdi can do. And with the front half fairing, the yezdi would be as stable as the GS on the highway. raj. Last edited by kkrk2; 01-31-2009 at 12:08 PM. |

looks like you are very seriously considering a cruise bike... yes, all the calculations you have mentioned is something I too would mention... but was wondering about what you did to the GS150 idea we discussed sometime back
