  • Best Scooter (in terms of battery and service support) ?

I own a Bajaj Kristal. Now, selling it coz of poor self start as its battery and charging circuit is poor. Another reason for poor self start performance(in my case) is that, its hardly ridden more than 1-2 kms and that too not on daily basis. As a result of which the battery dosen't gets charged. Also not every road side mechanic toches Kristal for repair.

Now, I want to know which automatic gear scooter (for females) will be best for my requirements? It will be driven 5-10 kms once in a 7-10 days, and 1-2 kms alternate day ideally. Primary requirements are:

    1) It should have a good battery power and charger circuit, so that battery doesnt discharges every now and then.

    2) Excellent self start (off course also supported by point 1)

    3) Servicing should be easily available (no rocket sciences)

    4) It has to be driven by a female, so light weight is desirable, but not compulsary.

Activa, Aviator, Flyte, Scooty can be some of the options.

Note: I notices that Flyte has a good battery of 12 V 9AH, will it help?

Benchmark: My Avenger 200 is what I will throw in as an ideal example of what i want in terms of self start. My Avy 200 remains unused for as long as 1-2 months many times. But, hey you wanna ride it, do the dusting, and just show your thumb to self start button... it roars :-). Thats what I want in my scooter too.

As far as I know, Flyte has a more powerful battery followed by Access

But let me admit, Dio's battery (which is used in all the honda scooters) is not capable of handling slightest of loads...
I own one for the past one year and found it the most problematic area of the scooter
Sometimes, during mornings, the scooter fails to start through Self.

As far as considering a new scooter, downgrading to a smaller engine of scooty would not make sense.

Though access is not heavenly powered but is much better than a honda scooter at pulling the scooter under loads and from slow speeds

Cant say much about the service, it depends upon your area

And please dont expect anything of avengers calibre...
Bajaj provides some lovely batteries in its bikes...!

            @betaal :
            1. Why don't you fix your Kristal ? I guess it's not too old ?
            2. Who will ride the new scooter ? (M/F) or both ?

If an overall good scooter is what you need Access is a good choice also check out the new Activa.. With combined braking s/m it would be easier if the rider is female.

Does that means that it also depends on the battery used? How much of a difference can be taken into account in similar standard battery (12V, 5AH) of the two companies Honda and Suzuki?

Access is bit heavier for female rider. Scooter is to be primarily ridden by female. New Activa is good, but hey I checked Aviator this saturday, its superb. Shocks, stability, ride quality is amazing. Activa is not even near to Aviator in that terms. Also Aviator is 6 kgs lighter than Activa. What say?

Mine was the among the first lot of Kristals, so it has a 12V 4 AH battery. Bajaj guys say that it cant be fitted with a 5 AH battery, which comes with the current Kristal.

Also I am not satisfied with the service support they have for Kristal. Not every mechanic touches it (even in Bajaj service center). And then when finally a so called Kristal mechanic touches it, 7 out of 10 times, I have to take it back to service center to fix some tuning or other minor issues.

I think the problem is not with the battery, its with the charger circuit they have in Kristal.

Since its ridden by my wife, she has to either kick it or pull it (if it doesnt starts). Thats not fair, I dint invested my money on Kristal to face these issues. Plus its also a panic for me in office, if she cant move due to problem in vehicle (as vehicles servicing and maintenance is my department). And I am fed up now, with these issues.

I loved my previous bike Boxer CT and I love my current bike Avenger 200 coz of there no problems attitude.

So I decided this to settle it once for all. No reasons to get late in that (in my opinion).

Tell me what you have done, if you would have faced this scenario?

@beetal : OK then sell off your Kristal and go for Activa. For short/smallish rider/s Pleasure would be better (but I am not sure about it's cold starting capability). So Activa would be better choice. You can research about cold starting capability of Pleasure if you want to buy one. Pleasure is very light and specifically targeted at girls/women. (FYI, HH says 40% Pleasures are ridden by men)
