Lightbulb Is Karizma as tough as i think?

This Q is for zma owners and other experts out there, please comment.
I want to buy a bike for my elder brother, and he likes my zma very much for ease of driving, as he is not much of a biker. We both hate pulsars as he had a 150 dtsi 2006 model.
So i was thinking to get him a second hand zma. This is cuz i think a used zma is still good enough to own as it cant be screwed easily.
The reason for this is my own bike and my friend's zma in pune. My friends zma had 5 accidents from 2006 to 2009, 2 major ones, but he wasnt involved in any one of them, he had to give it to his uncles. Also his flatmate took it unknowingly out of pune and had an accident.
So, even though it got damaged like fork out, bent chassis, harsh engine, worn out clutch plates, but still the bike was repaired as good as a new one, and only scratches remained on the body and silencer. He changed those.
Also the front fairing did not break in any of those accidents, just the indicator became loose and scratched. And as u know, none of our bikes have leg guards so the fairing takes all the damage.
So every time his bike had accident, we used to go to castrol Bike Zone, and get it repaired. After the chassis and engine work, it was hard to tell that it had an accident.
Also, his uncle drove had that bike for 1 year in between and he used to put gears by kicking on the lever. He also drove below 1.5 k rpm, with constant knocking in the engine. He tried everything to mess up the engine. But when my friend got the bike back, just after 1 or 2 servicing, the engine was smooth and whining again.
So, is it really a tough nut as i think, or just plain luck or expertise of the repairing guys?
N.B. - My decision to buy depends a little on this, but he doesn't want the new ZMR, the old one will be fine for him.

Query Approved

The Zma is quite tough. However if you buy a used bike, then you have to sure of what all has been altered.

DAMN tough, ZMA...

Nothing Official about it...

But as Ken da said, you need to check what had been altered n how many times it had fallen etc etc.

I'd suggest you go for a new one rather than taking a risk by buying 2nd hand. If you know the previous owner (very well) then only its good i guess...

OMG!! Beware of the EVIL uncles!!
I think most of the bikes if taken proper care of and not abused can take a li'l bit of torture, but this is soooo extreme. I think u should properly check it before buying it. Take an experienced mechanic along to see the bike.

Buy a new one or another used bike that is in good condition. After all these accidents, the chances of faults in the bike is very very high. Of course, you can repair the bike to almost original position, by a very good mechanic.

I advice you not to take chances. As suggested by spidy, take a good mechanic (who knows karizma well), test it and decide.

As for the toughness, it is true that handling a big bike needs expertise. Riding a Zma is a different game; one should know its limits, and of course, the limits of our Indian roads. What I observed is, those young guns after getting this high-powered machine, gets overjoyed and forget about the limits of road and the bike; the result always would be a crash.

^^^ +1 i would also suggest you to get a new ZMA unless you are getting a killer deal on a well maintained bike... and yes the ZMA is sure a tough nut to crack but when it crack the expenses are huge.

Good quality spares from HH makes Zma a tough nut for sure !! And a used Zma is good enough to own provided it has decent (and honest) history. Read ravi's message once again

looks like a great deal.. if the owner is your friend then you may be aware of his handling and maintaining history of the bike... if the picture is of the same bike then i think you should go ahead and pick it up. Congrats in advance for your new ride.
