  • The new old from Hero's stable: Xtreme 200r

A few days ago, a lazy day turned out to be a fun and happening one when I got to one of Hero showroom in my city. The intention was to drive the new Xtreme 200R, hero's participant in the 200cc sector. The 18.35PS power mill churning out 17.1Nm torque has nothing on the spec sheet to attract the customers with respect to it's competitors like Apache 200 4V.

But still talking about the positives, it maintains the quality that a consumer seems in a Hero i.e. comfort, usable power, simplicity, reliability, cost efficiency etc. All between this, what is missed is a track racer performance.

The bike is a sheer pleasure to ride in the city having little more than needed power coming from a 200 engine. But considering performance from this machine would lead you to a head down.

Summing my experience in short, I would like to go to pros and cons.

    Pros:
    1) A good 200cc commuter with hero's durability.
    2) A fun-to-ride and powerful motorcycle for city riding and local touring.
    3) One would really appeciate it's paint job.( I personally like the blue one)

    Cons:
    1) Not a proper 200cc machine when compared to competitors.
    2) The pricing can be a little lower.
    3) Can consider as characteristic of the younger xtreme with an elder engine.

Be safe! Ride safer!! Always wear helmet while riding.

PS: The test was offered by Kusumgar hero, Nagpur

I liked the Blue colour option as well. It's a striking color, quite different from the other bikes in the market.

Sure, go for it, it'll do relaxed cruising than 150cc segment bikes.

Then try rtr 160 4v , better than gixxer in all aspects except abs

I'm thinking about that. Any disadvantages over the sf version?

I heard it has poor low and mid range torque compared to gixxer which make it not so comfortable in city ride. And milage... Showroom persons claim max 35 kmpl it is. Don't know if these are true.

The 160 4v does have a good low and mid range torque. Reaching city riding speeds (50-60 kmph) is faster than any 150-160 cc bike; comparable to the 180cc bikes. Take a test ride and see for yourself. It is refined than any other bike in the segment and can hold 90-100 kmph effortlessly, which is usually considered the 200 cc territory.

I have an RTR 200 and get a mileage of 40±2 kmpl with sane riding. With some ripping in city and 2 highway speedruns, I managed to get 35 kmpl. The 160 4v must give you at least +5 kmpl compared to the 200 4v in similar conditions.
