    Problem with CBZ xtreme

    Hi
    i own a CBZ xtreme for around 2 years and done around 11k kms and in these 2 years the bike had the following repairs

    1. had to change head gasket thrice because of oil leak.
    2. got the air injector changed due to some weird noise it was causing.
    3. got the piston rings changed because of white smoke coming from the exhaust(it was burning oil).

    i'm not too upset though because i had to pay only for the first one and the rest were done under warranty.

    The question is
    one of my friend said that changing piston rings is a temporary solution and i have to change the whole cylinder and cylinder assembly for permanent solution?
    First think you are special then work towards proving it.

      Yes...at 11K kms even the rings are not supposed to wear.Do you rip the bike without first warming up ? do you change engine oil periodically with JASO MA2 grade oil ,or leave it to the Mechanic to decide? Changing Rings is a temporary solution......your bore and piston may already be worn.

        That may be the result of improper run-in. However, after changing the piston rings, please allow them to seat properly. I don't think that the cylinder has got damaged in 11K run.
        What say, PSR?

          One other reason, for the ring change to work out is a sticky ring...Piston Ring which froze in the groove due to Carbon deposits.Otherwise the ring alone will never wear without a corresponding wear of the Bore.

              Thanks for the quick replies. I think i did run in properly as i never crossed 60 till almost 2k and no sudden acceleration and even after run in i rarely used to cross 80 and the piston rings might have worn out because of oil leaks and i always used the usual hero honda oil and no other mechanics except from hero honda service center touched

                Replacing the ring is a temporary solution and it will hold the compression mostly till another 5k.

                Since your bike was drinking oil,it'd have worn out the bore due to low oil level and this ring replacement is a temporary solution.

                The service center has conned you i think by going for the cheaper alternative under the warranty and by the time the engine starts drinking oil again your warranty might have expired,so try and ask them to replace the bore kit itself.As it appears to be a manufacturing defect.

                  i almost forgot this.

                  while taking the bike delivery the bike was on choke and i didn't notice it and i almost covered 350 kms before putting the choke off.

                  And i do a worm up for 2 min before moving.

                    The bike was emitting white smoke for less than a minute at start up even if the engine is hot(after a 10 km ride) and then no smoke and oil level has never gone down below minimum mark.

                    Is there any way to check that the piston and all are in good shape now(like a compression test)?

                    If a compression test has to be done please tell me what should be the result for stock bike so that i can compare?

                          Man !! serious bubble trouble.350 kms !!That must have caused serious harm to the bike,onto the other Hero honda are engines are not much robust and are very prone to minimal problems.

                            please explain or give any link...about how because of choke in On position for a long time can cause Serious/ Minimal damage/s to Engine ..? that will help newbie user here like me .
                            Its not enough to know how to twist the throttle; you must have judgement to know when and where to do it.

                              What you may not know is that a rich mixture causes several problems as well.

                              A rich mixture will send more unburned HC into the catalytic converter to be burned, which overheats and destroys the converter over time.
                              A rich mixture will foul spark plugs, reducing mileage even more and exaggerating the effect on the converter as more unburned fuel enters it.
                              A rich mixture causes carbon build-up in the cylinder, reducing the life of the piston rings and possibly causing them to stick.
                              While a rich mixture does lower combustion temperature, a rich mixture will wash oil from the cylinder walls, reducing lubrication and causing the oil that is washed off to be consumed.

                              using choke means you are restricting the air flow which results in much petrol and less air making the mixture rich.
                              so the above might have happened.
