  • Missing / Miss firing engine

    Hi,

I find miss fire (feels like loosing power OR engine seems to be off for a fraction of second.

    This is not always.

It doesn't happen if I drive decently (no sudden acceleration or breaking)

It doesn't happen if I drive using its best power. (give max throttle, use the lower gear for the best pickup)

But it happens if If I drive at good speed (above 80km/h) for few minutes, and slow down to 40, again give throttle without lowering gear (even if i lower gear to 4th or 3rd)
Yesterday I observed again, and i found it happened only at around 5K RPM. I need to check this again...

When I slow down to 35-40, if I change gear to 2nd, and then gear up, no issues.

My bike always expect me to rip

I had checked with mechanic, the spark plug coil was re-winded, they said something wrong with airflow, which is corrected now.
These remedies made some changes, but still I find this problem in the above said scenario.

What could be the possible reason?

    Please help me..

It seems that your air-fuel ratio is not correctly set.

Open your sparkplug of bike and check the tip of sparkplug

If it is dry and whitish in color, your air-fuel ratio os lean
If it is light brown/black then it is nornal A-F Ratio
If it is dark black with rich deposits of carbon, then A-F ratio is rich

Tune your engine from a mechanic/Authorized service center to normal A-F ratio

If your A-F ratio is normal then do one thing
Check your spark plug gap recommended by your manufacturer. If it is too much/too less, your bike will misfire and you will feel power loss

Another thing is that your CDI is not proper and hence spark timing will vary and hence misfiring.
If your A-F ratio is normal and Spark plug gap is normal then you need to inspect CDI and the tappet clearance

        Hope it solves your problem.

          Thanks Pankaj
I will check the spark plug myself, even though it is checked by mechanic.
I don't know CDI. please help me in this.

My description about the problem in the initial post is very confusing and hard to understand.

Till last month I had driven only on city, and mostly alone, so based on that experience and problem faced, I post the issue.

Within last one month I had 2 long rides, one to Kerala and one to Mysore, so I understand the problem and I can explain in a better and simple words.

Engine miss (like petrol doesn't burn) happens at around 5K RPM (may be 4900 to 5100 RPM)
It happens only when I give more throttle, but the response is less

Best example is driving in ascend road (going up, need to to be steep ascend) with 2 on board, in 5th gear
It is ascend, and 2 on board, so we give more throttle but still the bike won't go like we are on a plane road and just with driver.

May be the bike can take to 80-90 kmph in top gear in that ascend, but still I can feel a missing if i am in 60 kmph (RPM approx 5K in 5th gear)

I felt this problem in all gears except 1st.

This time I could explain everything clearly to Mechanic, and also left the bike with him to check in empty road OR hill area.
I spoke to him today, he got the problem, and he suspect Jet needs to be replaced and then tune again.
Bike is CBZ Xtreme, Air filter is now GREEN

Even i was facing this misfiring issue. My mech cleaned carbon deposits from the convertor cable.Thats what he told me.After that no misfiring at all Do check ur spark plug and carb also.

              Thanks for the reply.

Did you have the same problem? missing at 5000 RPM?

Carb and Spark plug checked many times by hero honda as well as other mechanics.

What is convertor cable? I will ask the mech to check this when i go to him.

Anyway, I will check the spark plug as said by Pankaj

it can be due to a lot of problems, like air-fuel ratio, faulty carb, cdi.

but most importantly, you ahould never run with a rewinded ignition coil. it can leave you stranded, in the middle of where.
