  • Clutch giving less power.Help

    Hello all.
I own a Discover 100 (2011 model) and its 1. 2 years old. Previously my clutch was fine but i was facing low milege problem so i approached to the service center and the advised me to change my clutch plates as they were worn (I dont Know how) , anyway I changed the clutch plates and after that i noticed my clutch was not behaving well. Previously my clutch was smooth and it allowed me to pull my front wheel off the ground to some height with sudden clutch release at high rpms [ Baby wheelie ] ( don't laugh please , it may be a weird explanation to state how it was and how it is now) but now it is not letting me to do that. the bike jerks but doesn't takes off the front wheel.

My clutch plates are new and original ones. so can it be a problem with the clutch wire???

somewere i found that adding some more pressure to the clutch plates ( by adding extra springs can improve the clutch pressure , but i dont know is it possible or worth experimenting???) please help.

One more question little out of the topic:

Previously i had some problem with white smoke like on riding above 80s for a while my bike used to blow some white smoke from the exhaust. and for that reason i had changed my piston rings once but the problem remained afterwards. but currently i changed to synthetic oil last month ( Agip 4t Fury , 10w40 , synthetic) and surprised to notice that no smoke comes out even after 90 s for a long time . i can find some oily black particles in the exhaust just after the ride and the it gets dried afterwards. Btw the second query is not a problem but its a curiosity that what happens???
    Thank You

Experts, please go through this guy's history before giving him any advice.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

That's precisely the reason you had to change clutch plates so soon....
Wheelies on a 100cc/1000cc put stress on the clutch plates and they're bound to get burnt.

Maybe check the free play for clutch cable.

Your new clutches have soft pad therefore i think u are not able to do that, once u ran clutches for few more hundred kms then i think u'll able to do that. Not sure just as estimation, let see some expert inputs.

White smoke doesn't always mean that your rings are gone. Bad valve oil seals also leads to white smoke when oil gets into combustion chamber via valve root. Or a leaking head packing can also leads to white smoke. Yes sometimes after changing oil engine stops smoking because of the change in the viscosity of the oil. The oil not able to pass from the same way because of its thickness.

Well, how much kms have u covered in your bike till now?

Thank you Paul. btw I have covered 10592 kms. and it is 1 year & 2 months old. my clutch plates were changed approx 2000 km ago. from the first day i noticed there were something wrong in it. when i took my bike from the SVC i noticed the clutch was too much loose. and it was slipping from my hands. i told and they adjusted it to some extend. but still it was not like my previous one. I have checked its free play myself and unable to find that optimum adjustment like the previous one.

            I have two questions.
            1. can the problem be associated with any damage to the clutch cable? or the spring which is at the engine body where from the clutch assembly is fitted with nuts.
            2. can it be a bad fitting of the clutch? as while opening the assembly the SVC mechanic opened and inspected the previous clutch but later a boy ( may be those who mainly washes bikes at the SVC center / works as a helper ) was handed the job to fit the clutch. so if a bad fitting work can cause this i may reopen and fix it with a experienced mechanic. as it will be chargeable that's why i am asking you experts to recommend if its worth.

            Thank You .

I'm not a expert. Actually i'm not familiar with clutch assembly how it works. After few days i'm going to open it of my bike to see how it works. But as far as i know there shouldn't be any bad fitting. Springs may need replacement but not sure.
You shouldn't have gone so early for clutch plate replacement. My stock HH clutch plates were changed at 65000 for the first time. So your should have run more than 35000 at least. Depend on the usage of clutch.
Anyway, I've send your query to one of our expert. Let see his inputs.
