• Best mechanics for RX in Kerala

Hello, fellow bikers.I'm relatively new to xBhp.Here is my introduction thread--http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/who-you/...baby-25-a.html.
I'm in the process of starting a restoration project for my Yamaha RX100(1989) ,as i bought it from the 3rd owner and i'm willing to spend enough time and vitamin-M for the same.I want to do a proper Stock restoration and maintain it in top notch for a long long time to come.It is in an okay condition(As in pic,I'll be posting more, once i start a restoration thread) but as i don't know about the proper engine condition(I don't want to find out one fine day that it has problems) and the internal components.Basically i want to replace all the possible parts and want to make it a factory fresh product.

I wanted to know where i can find the best mechanics in my area(Chengannur,Alleppey district). The mechanics can be from Pathanamthitta,Kottayam,Alappuzha,Kollam or even Trivandrum districts of Kerala.I need to find people who know proper 2-stroke technology and give proper respect to the machines of yesteryear.
Thanks a lot

Cheers
Dan

Hey bro, about the mechanic maybe I can help you. I said maybe because around 1 year back one of my friend's brother restored his RX by someone. He sourced the parts from Kollam. It was also a blue color RX. Let me see if I can get the contacts and other details from him.

Cheers

Thanks a lot for the info brother. Will contact him for sure. Will PM him.
Thanks again. Its great to see a lot of 2 strokers from our land. There are many many more, but sadly only a few like you guys are in xBhp.Recently a friend of mine bought a RX100 for 7k or so.It was in a very pathetic situation. He dedicated time and effort and went as far as coimbatore for the parts at a cheaper rate.I saw the bike shortly after restoration,it was like @rxdude's factory rollout.I asked him if he had pics of the bike, before restoration and in the process of restoration. He sadly didn't have any.Else i could've posted on his behalf.

Thanks a lot for your help brother.

dmkmonk: if you are planning to just give your bike to one of those "famous and good" mechanics who is located 50-75 kms away from your house and ride off with a restored one after two weeks, i hate to burst your bubble, it doesnt work like that, if you are planning so it will take months as you wont be able to supervise the work being done and the mech will postpone your work and will be doing work that will get him paid at the present(bikes that belong to his local customers)or the parts being used ,sure you will have procured original stuff at great expence and difficulty but there will not be any way for you to spot the difference once the bike is assembled, and most mechs when left alone will go for cheap stuff than the original as the cost less, my advice is this its an rx100 ,you dont need a famous or good mechanic to fix it what you need is a decent and honest mechanic , who is located near to your home and whose work you can directly control and supervise, dont get mesmerized by the threads here and go around replacing every nut and bolt with new parts , replace only the bare min required, the oe stuff available today do not have the quality of the ones available a few years back , also download and keep a copy of the wokshop manual and parts catalogue , it will come in handy in the future

Ps: your bike looks ok from the pics if it is running fine dont go for a rebuild , it is an easy means of getting unnecessary head ache , heartache and sleepless nights and also for wasting your parents hard earned money

What you have said is true to the core.I was opting to go for a rebuild as i am the 4th owner and don't know what needs to be replaced and what not.Thank you for opening my eyes.I was initially worried about the availability of RX spares(Will it be available in the coming years,i mean is it manufactured today, please shed light on this subject @http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/members/kb100.html?)

Thank you for opening my eyes, yes i have been carried away by the amazing rebuild threads here,I admit that.I guess a total rebuild will have to wait then, after i start to earn myself(Again the main thing i was worried about was availability of spares,by the time i earn).

Will do what is required only at present.
Also, the engine is running fine now,the gearbox condition is good. But when do i know its time for an engine rebuild,i mean i don't have the details of previous maintenance records and don't know when the engine was rebuilt last.I don't want to be stuck at the middle of the road(metaphor) one day and go in for a rebuild then when i'm not prepared or don't have enough time. Now i have enough time and can do anything thats possible with the bike..Please guide me on this subject

Thanks a lot for your valuable advice

first of all ask the previous owner about the list of jobs that he has done ond the bike, if its not possible then go for a compression test to ascertain the condition of the bore , if the pressure is over 120psi then its ok, and dont worry you wont get stuck in the middle of nowhere , unless you do something really stupid like running without 2t oil, if it aint broke dont fix it, as for the spares if you want you can collect some and keep them for future use , need to tell you parts are expensive

Hi Dan, the best thing to do is what kb100 suggested, your bike looks decent. If it runs properly, don't mess it up, and just ride it like that.
About the mechanic too, he has given a very good advice, you be there at the time of repair, best of all start learning to repair yourself.
If you have money, its better you collect the parts for future needs, if you plan to keep her for a long time.
