Yamaha MT 15 clutch problem
I have bought a new Yamaha MT15, completed 200+ kms in it. But sometimes when I am stuck in traffic, I engage the clutch and gradually let it go but occasionally the clutch dis-engages and I am thrown forwards. After that i find no problem in the clutch. I have been facing these suddenly. What may be the problem? I went to the service station, the mechanic there cleaned the injector but while riding it happened once again and this time the bike turned off. -

I'm assuming you're a good rider and the problem is not related to your handling of the clutch lever.
What do you mean by "thrown off"? Do you mean the bike stalls (turns off jerkily)?
The oil level is ok? And what has injector got to do with it, is your RPM fluctuating or engine showing any other bad signs?
A video would be great if you can do it... ?Last edited by Samarth 619; 04-09-2019, 05:38 PM.---

Re: Yamaha MT 15 clutch problem
The engine is fine, i find no problem and the rpm doesn't fluctuate. The only problem i find randomly is that sometimes when i gradually leave the clutch in traffic, i can feel the clutch disengaging and the bike moving forward like i have left the clutch. I am thinking something to do with the clutch release bearing.

Re: Yamaha MT 15 clutch problem
You can only get thrown forward if the clutch accidentally engages not if it disengages. I think this could be a problem with your technique more than the bike. The clutch is connected to the lever by a cable so it cannot accidentally jerk unless you do it. May be try adjusting the play a little bit.

Do you know what you are saying? When you release the clutch lever, the clutch ENGAGES.Originally posted by ankurkalita11 View PostThe engine is fine, i find no problem and the rpm doesn't fluctuate. How long have you been riding motorcycles?
When you gradually release the clutch in traffic and when the bike starts to move forward, then that means you have entered the FRICTION ZONE.
There is no problem. You need to practice your clutch control. Every bike has different friction zones. For My Gixxer Related videos: Click HERE

Re: Yamaha MT 15 clutch problem
What i mean to say is that when i gradually start leaving the clutch, randomly the clutch engages although i have not left the lever completely and i am pulled forward. I have been riding bikes since 8 years now, i have ridden suzuki gixxer, cbr250, but never faced this problem. What i am thinking now is that it may be a drag because the oil is not changed and the clutch plates stick sometimes. I am hoping it to be solved after first oil change but if it doesn't then i don't know what i am facing.Originally posted by MotoBlizzard View PostDo you know what you are saying? Test ride another MT15 and see if the same thing is happening or not.Originally posted by ankurkalita11 View PostWhat i mean to say is that when i gradually start leaving the clutch, randomly the clutch engages although i have not left the lever completely and i am pulled forward. Re: Yamaha MT 15 clutch problem
Loosen the clutch cable a bit and the bike would not throw you forward immediately.
But it will definitely throw you forward after releasing a considerable amount of clutch.
Also one should not leave the clutch lever GRADUALLY when bike is in gear.
Leave it after getting to neutral gear.

Re: Yamaha MT 15 clutch problem
I think this can also happen if your clutch lever/cable is not lubricated well, you might think you are releasing slowly but it would not have activated for sometime and then after a certain position it suddenly snaps in place.

Re: Yamaha MT 15 clutch problem
Many guys have already pointed out the obvious, my suggestion is supplementary.
Inspect the clutch cable carefully. I suspect that either the cable is getting bent somewhere OR the cable's ends are not screwed in properly at either ends. Maybe the clutch cable's end on the handlebar is not screwed in properly inside the clutch yoke so the cable moves randomly while pulling the clutch lever? Same thing could be happening at the cable's other end, that bit could be moving/jolting freely while in operation resulting in jerky clutch.
I have pointed out the obvious simple explanations, once you have pointed out all the simple and obvious explanations then the fault could be more serious kind which would require opening the clutch casing.
