  • Help: Yamaha R15-Spares parts unavailability & security issues

    Hi guys,

Last weekend, while I was out of town, the entire front tire assembly (the tire, cast wheel and also the disk brake) of my black R15 was stolen, right from inside the compound of my house where I had parked my bike.
However this was just the start of my miseries. In spite of having comprehensive insurance I was informed that only bike theft is covered, not parts theft. I had purchased my bike from Pacer Yamaha in August and so I called them to have a new tire fitted. However out of the 14 parts that were stolen, I managed to get only 8 parts from the showroom. I tried getting them through Perfect Motors as well as Orion Motors but was informed that they were out of stock and would have to be ordered which would take anywhere between 12-15 days.
I tried to get them from Pune by contacting my friends but even there only 2 of the 6 missing parts are available.
Its been over 10 days now since the theft occured and I have had to lock my bike inside the house for fear of any further theft. Also there has been a general no-care attitude by all the showrooms which is really frustrating.
After spending so much on the bike, and it being more than 8-9 months since it was launched, unavailability of spare-parts is unacceptable.

Can someone suggest me some alternative so that I can get my bike back on the road at the earliest.

Also my second concern is "What should I be doing to ensure the safety of my bike?" Is fitting of the remote alarm system any help? Or do I have to keep the bike tied in chains when not in use? Please help.

      Hi Ares
Very Sorry about what happened to your bike. You can contact the Hyderabad dealers, Venkatesha Motors: 040 23540045 and Pearl Yamaha: 040 32560077. Hyderabad will have most of the stuffs.

As for security, there is a kit available which can be fitted to your front wheel and it does not touches your bike battery. But I dont think its available in India. I saw it somewhere on the internet and AFAIR it was for $4700. I know thats expensive. In case I found something else then would let you know. And if you do not care about your warranty then try Indian security systems. Be careful with the electrical though.

PS: The insurance must cover it! Check the policies again.

      Goodluck!

Tried getting through Venkatesha Motors but was given another number when I called; where I didn't get any response...still even if it is available, I don't know how I would be able to get it down to Bangalore without going there myself...(Pune being my hometown I could ask someone to courier)...will still try getting to know tomorrow if the parts are available in the first place. I have already placed an order for the parts here in Bangalore which would be sourced from somewhere near Delhi but it would take atleast 1-2 weeks more.

And $4700 for a kit would make it twice as expensive as my bike so thats out of question...will check out the Indian security systems like you suggested else there always is the conventional chain and lock I guess

I also went to the Oriental Insurance office but the guys there were very clear about the fact that parts theft is not covered, so I decided to not go banging my head behind it...will look for a better insurance provider next time...

Thanks a lot for the advice though!

Don't take their word for it. Check your insurance policy if this kind of loss is covered or not. If it is covered, they have to honour your claim... you can make them!

            @Ares

Did u check Panache... They usually keep stocks with them... Do enquire and if possible ask for a person by the name of Satish who is in charge of spares...

            Cheers,

            V

I know brother. I am still trying to remember whether it was $4700 or it was $94 which after converting it was Rs. 4700. Just cannot recall But I do remember that it was pretty kool. I'll try to search it again and post it.

              EDIT
              I found something similar:

              Product Page
              • High Strength Steel Lock
              • Microprocessor Controlled
              • 110db Warning Alarm
              • High Security Key & Barrel
              • "Smart" LED Arming Sensor
              • Motion Sensor
              • Shock Sensor
              • Detachable Electronic Module

You can find many similar products. This thing has an alarm too!
              Hope this helps!

PS: it was not $4700, Rs. 4700. My bad

Hey, thanks alot for that info...I have ordered for a lock (I hope the XR1 is compatible with the R15 though) from the US and I managed to find one at $68 only ...I'm assuming that it's a disc as well as remote bike lock with alarm system as it's got motion and shock sensors inbuilt.

                @ All:

However the main problem is still unresolved. I had given a call to Pacer Motors yesterday to inquire about the status of my order; and the service guy coolly said that it will take 12-15 days more...I blasted him and asked him to transfer me to the manager but he replied that the manager has not come yet. I threatened to complain to Yamaha about the service and he was like 'Go ahead'...

I then called the toll-free number given on the Yamaha site and complained about the problem. The lady at the call center told me that she will give a call to the showroom and see what can be done. She also gave me the yamaha e-mail id to launch an official complaint ([email protected]) and I shot them a detailed mail regarding the issue.

I called two other showrooms in Bangalore today and the service guys mentioned that the parts are still out of stock and would come after 15 days (their usual reply).

I have also called the showrooms in Hyderabad and Pune and its the same case there. I'm told that the company itself doesn't have a stock of the parts and so they can't do anything.

I'm at my wit's end as to what is to be done next. Would it be possible for anyone to check in their respective cities (Hyd, Pune, Chennai) and let me know if either of these parts are available so that I can either go and get them myself or ask someone to courier.

                The parts still unavailable are:
                1. 20P-F510C-00: Collar Assembly
                2. 93186-20823: Oil Seal
                3. 5MT-25398-20: Balancer, wheel (30G)
                4. 20P-F5186-00: Collar, wheel
                5. 20P-F5181-00: Axle wheel
                6. 95607-12200: Nut, self locking

Also in case anyone in Bangalore has an idea of some good mechanic around JP Nagar area who might help me in someway, please pass on the info to me.

It's been a really poor service experience so far with Yamaha and I might never recommend a Yamaha to anyone again if things go the same way.

Well, the problem is about to be resolved finally. I got a call from the Pacer Motors showroom today late afternoon saying that the parts have been arranged somehow...

I went there and got a spare wheel and got the mechanic along to my house. He has fitted the wheel onto my bike. Would be taking the bike to the showroom tomorrow morning and getting the new wheel fitted (keeping my fingers crossed)

I donno how they managed to arrange for the parts suddenly and also I wonder what prompted the fast response in the end; however I would heave a sigh of relief only after the new wheel is finally put onto the bike.

Yipeeee!!! My bike's back on the road and I just cant express the sense of relief and satisfaction I feel being back on the riding seat...was just able to ride it from the showroom to office but would be going for a nice ride after I'm done with work for the day

I'm happy with the Pacer guys taking the ownership of the problem in the end...though it did burn a nice hole in my pocket.
Total cost came to Rs.6150 odd and I also got a golden coloured mufler end cap and a bar end cap for handlebards for an added 1800 bucks. Wanted to have the white position lights fitted too but the original ones were not available and the manager instead mentioned that he had some imported ones which cost 750 for a pair as compared to 1000 per pair for the Yamaha ones. Any idea whether its worth going with the other imported ones?

Anyw...would be a lot more careful with the safety of my bike from now on...

Thanks all for all the support and advice

Thats nice! As for the LED Positioning white lights, they are available with Perfect Riders. Call them. When you call, please also enquire whether they have received the stock of blue from Faridabad. I have ordered for one.
The cost&quality is highly debated by many, but those who have the Yam LED light accessory are satisfied. I am of the latter sort.

It costs 500 a piece but I guess I would go for it still
