  • [Ownership Thread]: Custom enfield std.350 , 1986 model.

Purchased this bike in october '13 with the sole intention of modifying it , this also happens to be my first bike/vehicle registered in my name. For an entire year , I used to spend my off time going through pics of classic british irons , their bobber/racer avatars and dream of owning one of my own. At first a bobber was in mind and i even purchase products as per a bobber build(including a 10ltr streamlined tank which is currently lying around unused) but the nature of indian roads (meaning mud gravel and cow dung) made me apprehensive of chopping my rear mudguard. So I chucked the bobber idea and instead decided to lower the ride height and paint it in a manner which one expects from a classic motorcycle.

Work started in december first week and took 1 month for completion.
    Modification/changes done-
    1. 2.5" chopped off front fork and 2" chopped off rear shockers for slammed stance.
    2. toolbox chopped by 1.5" because I found them too protruding for my liking and now the bike appears more streamlined while viewed from rear/front.
    3. Old english RE models style front headlamp and meter casing(both replica fitted with replica smith meter in MPH) .
    4. Handlebar (different from stock but otherwise commonly available) fitted with replica vintage levers and horn/dipper switch.
    4. upswept silencer
    5. seat , significantly thinner as compared to classic model seats but otherwise comfortable.
    6. rear stock mudguard changed in favour of curved mudguard since it is a solo seater(for the time being , fitting pillion seat isn't a big deal).
    6. rear light , has double coil bulb so glows brighter when both night light and brakes are applied.
    7. paintjob , colour scheme(matte sky- gloss blue including frame , swingarms etc etc for uniformity) . wheel rim - cream colour.
    8. tyres changed and minor tidbits here and there like exhaust ring or rear footrest pegs chopped off and some engine work , bearing replaced , rubber parts and new wiring throughout.

The motorcycle looks significantly different mainly because of the lowered height as result of the chopping to suspension , travel is now around 2-3" in front and rear shockers but otherwise smooth. Using a sprung seat has lowered the gap between the rider and the gear/brake footrests but comfortable , overall it feels a lot different and fun to ride as compared to the stock motorcycle.

Minor cosmetic jobs are left like badging(it will be minimal) and currently in the process of securing small indicators roughly the size of a rifle bullet. Rear view mirror will also be added , i prefer bar end but the ones available dont suit the bike in which case i might use what they call the "jalebi" mirror.

The bike cost me 40k , another 38k went into the mod job including purchase ,paint and labour. The replica items were purchased online from vendors located in karol bagh and the rates were high but then it is a sellers market . I'm located in bareilly , worksmanship isnt the best here but they are good for assembling stuffs. The suspension chopping while acceptable could have been executed better , it was still done by a man whose trade is shockers so he did a fine and uniform job.

ps: Im not sure where to post a thread of this nature so posted in ownership.

    Thread Approved

Excellent. Loved the dark blue finish on the tank and the white touch on the rims.

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

Wonderful job there, looks like a true Brit classic when seen side-on. The low stance is very reminiscent of the Triumph Speed Twin from the fifties.

Good (and classy) decision that you opted for the classic look instead of the chopper/bobber look - the chopper look doesn't really suit Enfields, though it's my personal opinion.
A set of brass badges on the tank will add to the retro magic and you can try out the Continental GT's mirrors (I am sure lot of clones must have hit the market by now too). What are those tail lamps you have used? Are they LEDs?

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

@basuroy Wonderful work there buddy. The bikes looks clean, classy and not a single section of Bull looks overdone. Job well done I must say. BTW you did it all your own or got it done?.

You might try with thigh pads on the tank as most of the British classics used to have those, would definitely look great on your Bull.

Not thought of writing Royal Enfield anywhere?

        ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Forgot to tell you, 40K sounds a great deal and another 38K on top of that doesn't sound costly by any sense either. Congrats!!

BTW how is the engine condition? Did it require any work?

          Re: Custom enfield std.350 , 1986 model.

thank A LOT guys , i really mean it

yes the entire modification idea is mine(inspired from old british motorcycles and the original bullet itself) from the low stance(evryone suggested against chopping shockers and i was told this is the first time the chopper guy has done something like that in 50yrs of existence) to the paint scheme but it was assembled and painted by professional. I merely told them what goes where like where the tail lamp will be placed etc etc.

No the tail lamp isnt LED , infact it is a replica of lamps used in old british bikes. It has a bulb with 2 coils , 1 for hazard and 1 for brake - it glows brighter when both are applied but view distance is really low(50m).

Yes cosmetics like badging and some sticker works are remaining , i have ordered a set of brass badges for the tool box and the rear mudguard and the tank will prolly sport a round enfield logo . I also purchased thigh pads but i didn't know they need a bracket for mounting which my tank didnt have , also they don't go with the current colour scheme(originally i intended to paint it olive green ).

engine condition is above average , i got a new carbs , clutch overhaul and rocker/tappet changed but there are still some mechanical clanking present from the engine at lower gears . Sounds great on 4th though across a wide range of rpm . Gear box can be better as well , being a newbie to motorcycles(this is my first) I myself find it difficult to shift accurately evrytime and sometimes hit the false neutrals between gears.

The biggest difference other than cosmetics is the ride , before it was more upright while now i feel more relaxed riding this motorcycle(im 6"1) , something that can be compared to for exmaple riding a bike like avenger. Have to lean slightly more during turns but it adds to the racer feel .
