Take it to a cycle shop, those guys may be able to remove the bend in your rim.
My bike is fine. Washed my bike about 10 days back. My bike's 13th Birthday.
Will change the oil next month.

Was occupied with my older bike. Did some work, details in my other post. Waiting for tomorrow... For a "short" drive within city limits...

Another question, how frequently do you lubricate your bike? what is the lubricant u use? Please give me some general tips for weekly bike maintenance. Thanks!

Glad to read that you are fine.
A tip: Using a Ring spanner or T-Spanner, will give you more control to loosen the bolt.

Thinner oil than recommendation specifically the '30' part of 10W30 means thinner film coating the engine parts meaning more wear and tear in the long run. As long as you don't use it again and again, your bike will be fine.

Daily / Weekly check should include brake tightness, headlight (parking/upper/dipper) & tail lamp including brake lights.

About lubrication, I have not been doing much of it. I generally take it to my mechanic for checking chain tension on a monthly basis and get him to oil it up.

    6 weekly diesel wash

3 monthly servicing including engine oil change.

Adjust the bolt securing the Rear view mirror and clutch lever clamp using a 10mm spanner. This is as per my understanding of your description.

P.s. The oil is thinner than the specifications for our bike. You own the 2005 model, right? If so, 20W40 required as per owner manual.

    Stay safe.

    I am currently using 20W50 Castrol Power1.
I know our recommendation is 20W40, but this has served me well in the past, hence have returned to it.

I tried Shell Advance 20W40 earlier, it was better than Castrol Activ 4T.

Given that Rainy season will begin next month for you, I would suggest getting a servicing done alongwith the oil change as a pre-monsoon check to avoid unwanted surprises during times of need.

If finances are not an issue after the servicing (as parts & consumables may/may not be required), then change only the rear tyre (but check with your mechanic while collecting the bike whether he finds it necessary to change it as per your prevalent local roads and conditions).

Power1 Rs.395/- (my local Spares shop)
Shell Advance Rs. 284/- (Amazon India - wait for lightening deals)

Both are good. I was happy with both. I favour Power1 due to previous long association and trust it. Shell Advance has proven its reliability and longevity too. I used it for approx.4000kms, no issue.

My dad managed to kick it everyday and fill petrol from bottle but don't know to drive. And then came the flood in Chennai in the year 2015, bike stayed in water for few days (not sure what level). Chennai took a historic hit during that flood. There was above 6 ft flood water in my street and water rushed into all our items in the ground floor including bike. That is the reason why I even need to change my carburreter recently. I think it could be why my tires even have cracks on them.

Please tell me a simple way to check mileage. I generally fill petrol for 100 rupees above reserve and calculate the kms. Is that correct way?
    Thank you.
What you are doing w.r.t. Reserve to Reserve is correct.

Noting it as Rs. 100/- worth of petrol will give you cost in Rs./Km

Note the Kms read-out on the odometer when you hit Reserve,
Fill petrol & note the reading on the Fuel Dispenser at the Petrol pump.
When you hit Reserve again, note that Kms read-out.
Then you may calculate the mileage.

However I personally average 3-4 consecutive readings to get the Mileage during regular use & minimise variations due to riding conditions.

You are right. I fuss over both my bikes when free. Sorry to hear about the damage suffered by your bike.

Don't worry, you are back now and if you have the fiddle worm in you too (as I do) you will open that old carburettor and clean it up. It is interesting stuff. Well it is, if you get free time.

I will be going to Kolhapur to pick my other bike this weekend & drive* back to Mumbai

Last week I had ordered for a fuel economy testing bottle, which was delivered at home. I used it.

I took 100mL petrol from my tank using the fuel lock. Started the engine. I disconnected the fuel line from the carburettor end, connected the fuel economy testing bottle's tube to the carburettor and started it's flow. Drove the vehicle on the highway, whilst maintaining a near constant speed of 35-45kmph. Encountered 03 flyovers & 01 signal (which lasted 15 seconds). I covered a distance of 10.3kms. (final odometer reading 5649.8 - initial odometer reading 5639.5)

Reconnected the main fuel supply. And after a few minutes of driving, turned off the fuel supply from the fuel lock. Bike could be driven for 0.8kms on same road.

I then used a 20mL syringe to verify the marking for 100mL on the bottle. There was a 03mL error. It showed 100mL when actually there was 103mL.
Also user dependent error of 05mL was possible due to tilting of the bottle while filling it up with fuel.

So I had a maximum of 108mL in the bottle, I could drive 10.3kms. Out of this, 0.8kms could be attributed to the fuel already present in the carburettor.

Hence, I covered only 9.5kms in a maximum of 108mL of petrol.

Therefore, I calculated the fuel efficiency to be 87.96kmpL (worst case scenario) which I am personally happy with. Best case scenario it would be calculated as 103kmpL (ignoring the potential sources of errors).

12+ year old bike gives me this mileage, I am on cloud nine.

The tread depth seems adequate on the front tyre. The rear tyre has lost its central tread depth, whereas the sides are fine. The rubber on the rear tyre shows cracks.

The engine/block area & tyre pics make me feel that your trips takes you on dusty roads. Also the daily 20kms means approx. 3900kms since your previous oil change. Bajaj manual says 5000kms engine oil change. However I personally don't wait for so long, I change at 2500kms / 3000 kms.

Describe the vibrations. Do you mean some sounds for e.g. the visor or some other part? Or do you feel it at your feet or handle?

Vibrations at 60ish kmph are normal.
Looks like I am getting some Vibrations (GGGGGGRRRRRrrrrrr sound) from my Head unit once i cross 50 - 55. I am thinking of just changing the engine oil for now and do service in December (post rain). Which is the best engine oil you suggest?

I don't have the close up of your rims, if it is just some minor bending then just have it aligned. Lil hammering here and there. If it has become weak or corroded, then consider changing.

The front wheel doesn't bear as much load as the rear wheel and doesn't wear as much. I had changed my original front tyre at 75000kms(CEAT to CEAT).

That's too much rain for sure!! Seasonal rain in my place starts in a month or so. Not sure how much is going to rain here this time..

By the way, i got a chance to shoot some fotos of the tires and engine yesterday. Please see and let me know your suggestions. I need to change the battery due to a weak horn. Also, a question on service. I did my last service in Feb and I usually drive 20 kms per day (from home to office). Should I doing the service now? The engine oil seems to be thin and not thick. I usually do service with a bajaj dealer near by. Their service i rate is average or moderate. Another thing I noted while driving is kind of vibration sound when i cross 55 to 60.

The front wheel doesn't bear as much load as the rear wheel and doesn't wear as much. I had changed my original front tyre at 75000kms(CEAT to CEAT).

The rear tyre, I have changed thrice
29000kms (original - MTL to Metro Continental), 45000kms (Metro Continental - MRF) & 83000kms (MRF to CEAT).

Due to rear rim corrosion, I had swapped my rims, however after spoke breakages twice, I changed to the new 18" Hero Rims. It cost me Rs. 650/- per rim + Rs. 250/- per spoke set + Rs. 250/- per rim for labour.

The rear Ceat tyre had cost me Rs. 1600/-

It has been, I guess > 2 months since I changed the rear tyre and the rims.

The Amaron battery cost me Rs. 650/-
The Exide batteries over time had corroded the metal strap and rivets around it, hence wanted a sealed battery. Changing the battery box requires me to change the entire thing including air filter side, as it is one unit.[emoji34]

    Note:
    1) Except the labour for the rim work, all prices are inclusive of taxes.
    2) The kms readings have been rounded off to the nearest 1000kms.
    3) The Amaron battery is in its first year, so I don't know about it's longevity.

By the way, some pics from the recent flooding in Mumbai about 10 days back, my steed got me and my spouse to my residence.
The journey was fun and exciting. (Required me to take antibiotic prophylaxis later to prevent Leptospirosis, but worth it.)
When the BEST buses/tempos were passing us by, they created a wave, pushing and pulling us alternately.
My silencer was under the water for most of the journey. At one point, the entire gearbox was under water and presumably the area above the spark plug remained above the water level.
My clutch gave way half way through, due to heavy use (it was nearing its end anyway). The bike stalled, thankfully where the water level was below the silencer level. The cable seemed intact so tried the handle adjuster to tweak the settings. It worked, and we were back in business and the journey ended in a short while thereafter uneventfully.

Happier to know that your battery, tyres lasted so long.

Take an Amaron or equivalent (12V, 2.5mah) sealed battery. It has a longer warranty period, doesn't require any maintenance, no battery water leakage or particle deposit nor corrosion.

I wanted to ask you to interchange the rims due to the bend, but it is not feasible cost wise.

My Ceat tyres have been tremendously helpful in the recent heavy rains. No slipping or any other manner of loss of grip experienced.

All the best. Awaiting the pictures.
