Break Shoe Wear Indicator

We can easily identify how much our break shoes are worn out by looking at its Drum.

A usable range is marked on every drum break and a Indicator is attached to its respective Break Cam Lever.

If the indicator is at the bottom, the shoe is newer and the indicator is at the top, its worn out completely and time to change.

The similar marking & indicators are present in every other bike (hero, Yamaha, tvs, etc.)

Next time if the mechanic says 'changed the break shoes' you know where to check.

That is true. Over time it will fade also.

Remember the numbers. It is simpler. The service centres will end up washing it off after a few washes.

I have just noticed this Tyre Pressure sticker on Chain Cover.

No more confusion now. If we have doubt on how much of pressure we need to maintain we can simply see this sticker on Chain Cover

The bike looks good. Also you can ask the service centre guys to do it for you. I don't think that they will have a great issue with it. Though they may say that the noise you hear is normal and grease is not applied at the front sprocket etc. You tell them that it won't harm to try this as it has worked for one of your acquaintances at a Sai service Bajaj service centre in Mumbai. Hopefully this should water down their excuses if they attempt any. All the best. By the way, your vehicle is under warranty and as such you can visit the service centre for any issue you feel you face with the bike. So you need not wait for the next service.

Well I do have AP3 grease. But not Veedol Brand. It is a HP AP3 Grease. I bought it long back when I was using Splendor, just for the sake of having it at home.

I am bit worried if I can apply the grease to front sprocket by myself or get it done by the service center, since it is a new vehicle.

@ Rakesh, the CT100 front shock absorbers can be used without modifications in 4S champion, as confirmed with my mechanic.

Prashanth, the grease is a Veedol AP3 premium lithium based white grease.

Rakesh, my mechanic owns a 4S champion. I will get back to you on this. I looked at the 4S catalogue, they look the same and interchangeable parts are common between bikes, but part nos. are different, hence can't be certain about it.

Can anybody advise if the front shockers of this model are a direct fit on 4S Champion? I checked in the market but the shop owner was trying to sell Honda shockers to me.

Okay. About chain lubrication, refer to the lubrication interval for it in the manual. About the grease, I can let you know by tomorrow evening, the brand and product name. I had just asked for white grease. It came in a 200gm or so packet. Only the front chain sprocket needs to be greased, which can be accessed by removing the cover over it. AMC Annual Maintenance Contract, FNG = Friendly Neighbourhood Garage. It was commonly used on the forum earlier, hence I did. Apologies to moderator(s).

Hi.

That is an impressive mileage for your new bike. About the problems with your bike:
a) The starting issue.
(i) Do you start your vehicle with the choke applied? If not, you need to for the CT100, as per Bajaj service.
b) The chain noise: The chain sprocket may be dry. It may need to be greased, not oiled. They normally just oil the chain from the rubber cap aperture, which does not do much for the front sprocket.
c) The clutch/gear issue: They probably needed to adjust the clutch tension, which I think they must have in the servicing.

Do not worry, you have got a very good bike. It is not some old vehicle that people have abused during test drives. When I purchased this bike, even I had similar doubts about whether the parts used were original for CT 100 or not (Caliber, AR100, some other bikes shared common parts), despite the bike having obvious stickers, the RC book mentioning the name of the bike and having a valid tax receipt for the same. I have since come to realise that we are not used to good things happening to people in the world, hence distrust for good things is more commonplace.

Anyway coming to the advice part, do not under any circumstances let people fiddle with the air screw on your carburettor. They want to clean it, let them, but setting not to be touched. About the oil change, do change it every 2000-2500 kms. I have used Castrol Power1 in my engine since the beginning even at the Bajaj service centre. I had got them to give me a waiver for the oil change. They do not use spares or oils purchased outside. Also remember your vehicle is under warranty, so do not be scared about the engine or bearings or other stuff. They have to change it, free of charge, if faulty. If you end up taking an AMC, you are given extended warranty by dealer. They have to work as per the dictum, a stitch in time saves nine, so your vehicle will be kept in top condition. Also if you do not, your FNG will take care of any issue.

All the best and happy safe riding for your trip. I plan to embark on my maiden 400 kms Intercity trip, sometime in the coming 2 weeks. Hope everything works out well. I may end up having a smaller 200Kms Intercity trip planned for this week. Don't know yet. Cross my fingers.
