  • Harley Davidson Opens Shop In New Delhi; July 14, 2010

Freedom is a strange word. It is interpreted differently according to the context and circumstances. 14th of July is an important day in Human History when the Bastille fell and lots of other authoritarian heads fell too under the guillotine in the Revolution that ensued in 1789. Most of West Europe celebrates a holiday on this particular day. And coincidentally Harley Davidson chose this day for the opening of their first dealership in North India, third in the country at the DLF Promenade, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi.

Anoop Prakash, MD, Harley Davidson India did the honours by being the Master of ceremonies. The dealership is owned by an esteemed biker, Mr Atul Aggarwal. During the opening, two Harley Davidson motorcycles were also delivered to two customers who had booked their motorcycles when booking started on the 20th of April.

    Some photographs from the event:

Anoop Prakash, MD Harley Davidson, India, the face that we all know by now

The Two Proud Harley Owners who took delivery during the opening ceremony!

These motorcycles are "special edition" India 2010

There is also an apparels and accessories section, for Men and Women!

    Roadking, King of the Road!

No prizes for guessing that one

    Just love those Vees!
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Lovely Rides ! Why is the lighting so low ? Is it the ambience ? It looks they tried to give it a retro look with spot light.

The bikes Ground clearance seems bit low for our pothole covered roads. But then it would loose it charm if its height is increased.
    Peace \m/

Thanks for sharing this, Ken Da.

@iwonder: The lighting was really bad, in photographic terms. Be thankful that we are getting to see atleast these images!

These are highly enhanced images. The lighting was really miserable!

As for the ground clearance, it is as good as bikes like the R15 or the Avenger in India. But believe me, you would not want to take this to Zoji La Pass!

When I rode one around for nearly 3000 kms, it consumed consistently less than 5L to a 100 kms! I was riding a 6 year old Carb 1200 Sportster.

Just dropped in the other day to check the new store....the bikes on display were awesome and their stock of accessories and clothing were also mindblowing....however, their service sucked BIG TIME!!!...the sales girls were busy chatting behind the counter oblivious to the customers in the store and when were completely clueless about the finance options etc...they directed me to a gentleman (Sarabjeet) who was worse...I guess prior to working with HD, he may have been selling Bajaj scooters....very rude and un-customer friendly...I asked him about the availability of a particular colour of sportster...he said its out of stock...when I asked him when will it be available, he curtly replied next year (with a tone meaning "Take it or leave it!")....I'm amazed that with such a huge global brand like HD, the level of service is like this....you can get far superior service at a Hero Honda outlet!!!...Hope Anoop is listening...

@Ken sir - appreciate the pricing on apparel; I guess HD would make more money on this than on motorcycles in India. The King of road is looking really awesome!!!

And what was the other one? XR1200R is it?

What you visited was the showroom of a dealer and not Harley directly, however, the fact remains that the showroom should be a reflection of the brand itself which it was (defined in one word : arrogance.)

When the bike was launched, a few friends reached Harley's office on their big bikes to see if they should switch, they had to return back licking their wounded ego for similar reasons.

I was actually hoping to see a GIR on HD... that would be a perfect win win for all...
HD globally (read HD storms India),
HD awareness in India (and some fantab pics from you would be the icing!), more limelight to India itself as a bike touring destination!

Damn if that ever happens give a small chance for one of us (read ME!) to participate in that ride!

You really seem to have a lot of problems with HD. Your best English is when you are smacking them!
