Audi's global Marketing and Sales director Peter Schwarzenbauer this morning hinted at some of Audi's future direction, and they don't always involve Audi cars as we currently know them.
Asked if there were limits to Audi's expansion into new categories of vehicle, he said there were few limits.
"As long as it is premium... we see a chance to get a lot of new consumers into Audi's space."
When it was observed that MPVs was one area Audi didn't currently operate, Schwarzenbauer smiled and noted that he "didn't like the word MPV."
"But that doesn't mean we couldn't offer such a model. If we built such a thing it would be sporty, not boring - built in the Audi way... the right direction. I could envisage such a thing."
Asked about Audi's plans for the recently acquired Ducati, Schwarzenbauer said that the motorcycle maker's "know-how would be useful."
"Two wheels could be part of a mobility concept from Audi... Ducati as a brand could play an important role in that."
When pressed as to whether such a vehicle would be branded Audi or Ducati, he said that both options are possible.
