  • Specialized Turbo - Cycle, Motorcycle or Electric Bike!: xBhp News

The Specialized Turbo is an electric bike which has more in common with a cycle than a plastic scooter that we see adorning the roads.

The bike has a 342 watt/hour lithium-ion battery which powers a 250 watt hub mounted motor, giving it a top speed of 27 mph (43 kmph) to help you commute around the city. Designed specifically for use on tarmac this bike hits it top speed without any hassles.

The bike is designed with a MTB type styling but geometry of a hybrid. The aluminium frame helps reduce the weight, but it still weighs in at 22 kg (approx). Not much, if compared to the roadsters which adorn Indian roads, which are heavier! The bike has four settings for its electric propeller, to get varying amounts of power and distance. The battery lasts for around 45 minutes, but can be charged with a regular socket.

The downside - the bike/cycle retails at a mind boggling $5900 or 350000 rupees, excluding 30% customs of course! A much cheaper though no way remotely as good looking option is - B'ebike 5 - Electric bikes - BTWIN

If they have 'Specialized' turbo for 3.5 Lac then how much for 'standard' turbo?

must say... is quiet a looker... problem w/ most bicycles is they are built to race & not to be ridden in mad city traffic AND highways...
very few bikes & even the exotic ones do not consider the factors like rider comfort, erect posture waist-up, low center of gravity / mass designs etc...
i wud love to peddle my way to work daily - about 87kms that is & i reckon it will take me about 30 mins more than what it does, if i were on my avenger or in my fiesta... not to mention the added benefit of trunk-like legs & a titanium heart! ;-)

The BTWINs sure look ugly with the battery packs strapped on to the rear and the 80's designs. I remember, Hero cycles had a battery powered bicycle here in India which retailed for 15,000 bucks way back in 2000. Never heard of it again.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!
