Vimal Sumbly Managing Director of Triumph Motorcycles in an interview spoke about how the company is trying to get India to be the export hub for emerging markets. Sumbly had earlier worked with Bajaj Auto, and has good knowledge of the working of the Indian market. Triumph will first be bringing in their bikes as CKD's which will be assembled at the Manesar Plant. After a year work will begin in the Bangalore plant for manufacturing of the smaller capacity bikes. The bikes are expected to be competitively priced, but not necessarily at par as the competition.
Triumph is setting up proper service centres and will be training their mechanics to ensure that the customer does not just buy a bike but should have a good after sales experience as well. Triumph believes this was important to strengthen the back end before launching the bikes, thus delaying the launch of the bikes from January to November.
Sumbly declined to specify the capacity, price and specs of the upcoming small capacity bikes. Earlier xBhp had reported of a 250cc Triumph in the works. Whether this will see fruition, remains to be seen.
