  • Bajaj Discontinues 100T, 125T, Only 4 Discover Variants Now

In the past couple of years, Bajaj Auto has launched a lot of Discovers and that has led to a lot of confusion too, mainly for prospective buyers. When something did not work out, Bajaj was quick to discontinue it and launch another model, giving the product very little time to be accepted. After launching and discontinuing the Discover 125 ST, Bajaj Auto has now discontinued two more variants of the Discover, the 100T and 125T have been axed. The Discover 4G is still on sale though but will be withdrawn from the market later this year.

This means only four variants of the Discover will be kept on sale, ensuring there is no confusion between buyers. For the 100cc, Bajaj Auto offers the Discover 100M while in the 125cc, the Discover 125M is being offered. The other two Discovers in the line-up are the ones launched just a couple of days back, the Discover 150S and Discover 150F. The T and ST platforms have been transferred to the 150cc Discover, as this is the platform which has a longer wheelbase and a monoshock rear suspension. If the 150cc Discovers bring in good volumes (more than 1 lakh unit sales every month), there will be no further changes to the Discover line-up.
The recently launched Discover 150s are by far the best Discovers yet and we rode it yesterday and came out quite impressed. The bikes are smooth with good refinement and the learnings from the 150cc Discovers will be used on smaller Discovers in the future, to further improve them. Bajaj Auto was doing decent numbers in the motorcycle market but their domestic sales have dropped quite low, with only 1.25 lakh units being sold in the Indian market last month. In comparison, Hero sold 4.64 lakh bikes while Honda sold 1.48 lakh bikes. The Pulsar maker is by far the leader in export of motorcycles from India, which helps them get good overall sales. Only time will tell if it is now the time to Disco!

Though it seems perplexing to prospective buyers, in my opinion that's what should have been done a long ago. Just keep the number products of a particular segment to minimum and focus on the quality of those and implement the feedbacks in future. Merely launching and discontinuing at a frantic pace won't help matters!

Hope Bajaj learnt the lesson. I wont repeat the mistake again. They should have learnt it right away, when D125 ST failed to generate numbers. But they choose to experiment further and faltered on the way.
Anyways, The current 4 Discos are best options one can have. I guess, its a matter of time, they will stop the 150S as well. But thats just my prediction.
Now that Discover line up is sorted, please come up with P400s. Eagerly waiting.

Hindsight is wonderful thing. No one can predict the future, else everyone would have best sellers.
Only when you try, you know..

Eg: I personally never thought at the time of launch of the CBF Stunner that Honda would have to stop its production one day.

Finally good decision by bajaj. IMO they should also discontinue Pulsar 135LS,150 and 220, And make a fresh lineup of "Pulsar" by launching a revamped 180 with much more competitive pricing. Keeping the 200NS and launching 200SS(which will be an apt replacement for potential 220 buyers), 400CS and 400 SS.

Its good to experiment, but not at the cost of the customer's faith. Thats why market study is so important before any launch. I really feel for the consumers, for losing the resale value of the products.
As per Stunner, it sold well initially, but was never updated. More over, it was pricey. One could easily get a 150CC for that price with almost same milege.
In today's time, it could neither appeal youth, looking for power, nor the middle aged looking for milage. The reason why P150 is still the best selling 150- It appeals to both segment of buyers.

Due to the reason cited above, they could not discontinue the 150 in near future. Till now, Nothing can match the VFM of a P150. But yes, P180 could be discontinued or replaced by P150 NS. And P220!! There is still no match for the touring ability of P220 in this side of 1 Lakh. Ok, upgradation to better shocks and swingarm is welcome.

I agree with your points but from a market perspective, Bajaj is still known for bad QC of 150,180 and 220. Even though Bajaj rectified most of the QC issues with 200NS, people still see pulsar bikes as "cheap bikes". So if they are desperate to gain market shares they should discontinue their old(150,135,220) bikes. Make the Pulsar brand differentiating form their own discover range by introduce new range of Pulsar's starting from revamped 180NS(maybe), 200NS, 200SS,400CS and 400SS. By launching good products and gaining trust only, they can get their market shares back this is what hero is doing lately(expect the new Karizmas, god they look terrible).

Re: Bajaj Discontinues 100T, 125T, Only 4 Discover Variants Now

My colleague recently bought a Discover (I think a 100cc bike). When we went to the showroom and the salesman showed a sheet which had all the bike variants and their corresponding prices, I was shocked to see so many Discovers there. When we asked for a particular model, salesman would say " production of that model has been stopped".
It was really confusing as to which one was stopped and which one is in production.
If a model is stopped, why dont the showroom at least black out that model?

I have a 125T. Is this bad for my bike?

Kinda sad that this happened so soon, but I've learnt my lesson. Never buy a Bajaj.

                      Really good move by bajaj.
Earlier it was too confusing for a buyer to select a discover.

You might loose the resale value, but nothing is that bad. You will get spares easily as the other discos are based on same platform. Dont worry, your bike is brilliant and will serve you well.
Why "Never buy a Bajaj"? It should be, "Never buy a newly launched Bajaj".

I don't plan on selling it anyway because I wasn't getting a lot when it was in production. I made a big mistake by buying this bike and hopefully my next one will be a lot better.

                          Aah Yes you are right!
Never buy a newly launched a bajaj (especially a disco).
