Why are Yamaha and Kawasaki giving the 125's USD forks while the Ninja 300 and R# get regular commuter looking ones??? Heck even the Ninja 650 and MT07 have regular forks!!Crazy logic!

Small-capacity bikes revealed in Asia don't usually make it onto Visordown because they're often not UK bound - but there's a yawning gap in Kawasaki's range for a 125 roadster, so a learner-legal addition to the Z family looks like perfect sense. The only 125 in the line-up at the moment is the KLX125 trail bike.

Currently the Z1000 and Z800 are available to riders with an unrestricted licence while A2 licence holders can choose from the Z300 or a restricted Z800 e. A 125 model for learners would make a Z for every licence category.

It's not clear where the bike was photographed, and the pictures are too low-res to tell whether it actually says '125' on it. It does have a 'Z' though, along with a clear resemblance to the rest of the family, with upside-down forks and a stubby exhaust.

Because these 125s cost nearly 2 lakhs a piece and make more or less same power as an Activa. They are lifestyle products and not regular mass market bikes. These are brought by individuals who will then spend another 5 lakhs modifying it for competition shows where the best modified bikes win cash prizes. Then some buy them for recreation purposes. Google Gromkhana for example and watch it

Because they are small bikes, and normal suspension would not be able to take the load or provide adequate damping.

I understand the target audience being people with deep pockets, Even though the engines on these things make small power(They are restricted by rules ) they often have all bells and whistles in the engine department like Liquid cooling, Four valve head, ceramic coatings and others. The other models in the 250-650 range will benefit from using a USD fork upfront. These components are not extremely pricey as having a cost increment of more than 10% for the manufacturer considering that they are bound to use the forks across a range of the same platform like KTM is doing of course with revisions to the internal setup like valves and spring loads. Also the sales of a 250 class motorcycle is much higher than these premium 125's and a higher sales figure with a slightly smaller margin is always bound to be better for a business.(BTW here in New Zealand even an R15 costs almost 6000 dollars new which is approximately 2.7 lakh rupees with NZ dollar at 45 rupees and the r125 only costs 500 dollars more)

Because these are small bikes, ad the conventional forks wont do their work when the fork size is so small. Thats why the companies use USD forks.

Dude do you even Understand what USD forks are there for??? The main function is to try and reduce the vehicle's unsprung mass.

All I know is that conventional forks would not be able to handle the mini bikes mass, and rebound quick enough, and for that reason they are a necessity on these smaller bikes, rather than a luxury.

The USD forks are not very different from regular ones in terms of functionality and they have to be adapted to the target vehicle by changing the internals like orifice for oil flow and spring as also the external size. Here's a little kiddie bike for your reference. It has a conventional fork and the size is almost similar to the Grom.Click image for larger version

The kiddie bike doesnt have a 70 kg rider either(average weight of an adult male).
And I shudder to think what would happen to the conventional forks in panic braking.
