Recently, Anand Mahindra replied to a twitter follower’s enquiry regarding the launch of Jawa in India. The reply read “Happening this year.”
In 2016, Mahindra confirmed that they will bring Jawa in the country again in 2018. Though we don’t know the details of the motorcycle which will be brought to our shores, but going by the legacy of Jawa, the new motorcycle will probably be a classic or a modern-retro. It will exist in the same segment as of Royal Enfield.

The Jawa-Mahindra linkage
Jawa motorcycles is a Czech motorcycle brand which is currently owned by Mahindra’s subsidiary brand namely Classic legends. Classic legends became a subsidiary of Mahindra in 2016 to sell motorcycles in the domestic market and globally as well. Mahindra is looking forward to revive this classic brand in India knowing that it will have a lot of takers just for the legacy it brings on the table. Mahindra’s initial stint with the two wheeler market didn’t prove to be that fruitful. Now it’d be interesting to see where this “classic” path will lead Mahindra for now they have Java on board.
We had covered of these beauties during our 0-100 Motorcycles campaign in 2016. The bike we shot was a 1954 model. You can read more about it here
The modern Jawa
Jawa developed a cult following in India before it got discontinued. But recently, it was revived, not in our country though. Back in May 2017, a new motorcycle was launched from Jawa’s stable in Czech Republic namely Jawa 350 OHC 4-Stroke. This particular motorcycle displaces 350 cc and is air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that makes 26 bhp at 5250 rpm and 32 Nm of peak torque at 4750 rpm, while paired to a 4-speed gearbox. We are yet to get a confirmation whether the same model will make it to India or Mahindra will tweak it according to them.
