  • Triumph Scrambler 1200 teased: Global Debut on October 24th

Triumph Motorcycles has teased its new Scrambler 1200 through a video though the teaser only shows the front of the motorcycle. It looks considerably different from the existing 900cc Scrambler from Triumph’s stable.

In all probability, the Triumph Scrambler 1200 will feature Triumph’s tried and tested 1200cc mill. Tentative power and torque figures are 79 bhp and 77 Nm. The engine of course will be tuned differently from the Bonneville Bobber, Speedmaster and T120. Also, two variants of this new Scrambler are expected. One might be a road going variant will normal tyres and cast wheels and the other might be an off-road avatar that will get spoked wheels and off-road tyres.

Some of the noteworthy features discernible from the video are the knuckle guards, off-road tyres, and a 21-inch wheel up front. The existing Triumph Scrambler in comparison has a 19-inch front wheel. It is also supposed to get a decent electronics package as well. ABS, Traction Control, Riding Modes and Ride-by-wire might very well make their way to the new Scrambler. The new Triumph Scrambler 1200 will make its global debut on 24th October at the 2018 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy. India launch of the Triumph Scrambler 1200 is expected to take place during the first half of 2019 and it should be priced competitively than the Ducati Scrambler 1100 that might launch this month.

Now this bike i am waiting for. If its not priced out of the stratosphere as the current tigers are, I'll probably get one

This will mostly breach the ₹10lakh ex-showroom price, since it will stay above the Bonneville T120. Then I guess the new Tiger would be a better value proposition than this one for off/on road duties.

Now it will boil down to whether you need that retro classic look or the purposeful adventure look in that segment.

Anyways Triumph is on a roll now bringing one winner after another!

      Cheers

So I've been planning on a big adv from the past few months. The Tiger 800 XRX is 15.2 and the XCX is 16.0 on-road Delhi, which is, quite frankly, retarded. I also test rode the BMW 1200GS Rallye and that is 19.1 on road which seems like a whole lot more value than that (relatively) anemic 800 triple.
A bike that costs 16 lakh has tube type tyres. It is not a dirt bike. I don't know what Triumph was thinking.

Anyway, the article in the OP is incorrect w.r.t performance. The 1200 twin engine pushes out 80 [email protected] rpm but makes 105 NM torque at ONLY 3150 rpm. The same engine in a hotter tune (Thruxton R) pushes out 97 HP @6.7K rpm and 112NM at 4950 rpm, after being tweaked for making power higher up the rev range.

The tiger triple makes 95 hp at god-knows-what rpm and 79NM at 8K rpm. For someone not bent on ripping every last rev out of the engine, the 1200 twin is going to be way, way better.

Then, let us look at some spy shots of ze 1200 Scrambler -

Ohlins suspension front and back. Tubeless cross spoked tyres. Compared to the squishy tiger suspension (take a test ride and try the front brake, you'll descend one foot and then bounce back up) this should be much better. And finally Triumph has figured out how to fit tubeless spoked tyres on bikes costing less than ~20 lakh on road.

Of course, Triumph can go ahead and price this at say sixteen lakhs on road, Delhi, but even then I dare say it would be a better value than those ripoff tigers. Magnetic tankbag, anyone?
