The fact that a Z400 might be on the way is based on both logic and facts. The logic isn’t very far-fetched as they already have a Z250 and a Ninja 250, a Z650 and a Ninja 650 and Z1000 and a Ninja 1000. The only Ninja which seems to be missing a ‘Z’ cousin is the Ninja 300. Also, last autumn the firm announced that in 2019 it would also have a Z125 and Ninja 125 (not in India we think).
And the fact that supports this news is that Kawasaki has filed new emissions documents with the California Air Resources Board (CARB). How does it confirm the presence of a Z400? The documents show that the firm will have two 400cc bikes sharing the same engine. One is listed as a Ninja 400 and the other, ‘ER400DK’. The suit followed by Kawasaki inevitably means that ‘ER’ equals naked bikes. Also, the last version of the Z300 to be offered in the UK was the 2016 version and its internal code was ‘ER300BG’.

So, based on all this, a Kawasaki Z400 might not just be a pipe dream at all. If it makes its way to India though, is a completely different story. Spec-wise, we expect a lot of similarities with the Ninja 400 sans the fairing. So we can expect around 45 bhp from the 399cc twin-cylinder engine.
